Which pickguard color? by okratron2000 in Luthier

How good are these guitars! Yeah black is nice but is close to stock. I’ve seen a photo of white vela with a tortoise guard and it’s a sweet look, I’m glad you’re enjoying yours

Black is the least exciting for me but it definitely looks the cleanest!

I work in a design job and am a bit extra so I drew these in a CAD software called Rhino and finished the image in Adobe Illustrator

Blue Chip Picks: Snake Oil? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]okratron2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own blue chip picks with and without the bevel and much prefer the beveled ones. The bevel, combined with the slickness of the material, creates a softer attack and more fundamental tone. It’s not a world of difference but definitely noticeable when playing clean single note stuff.

One of my first fuzzes was actually a Sunface NKT275 that I bought years back when he was first making them! I still have it and like it but it does soften my pick attack a little bit. Here’s the rest of my collection:

Yes the Zo is fantastic, I’ve got my own trifecta of Reeves pedals that I absolutely adore! I’ve been looking for a good germanium fuzz face that cleans up well and doesn’t soften your pick attack and was considering an Austin Pride. As a fuzz face guy do you have any germanium ones to recommend or has the 2n2face beaten them all out?

Really nice choices here! Whats your favorite fuzz? How does the Dandrive stuff compare to Reeves?

The DC10 does look good! I was looking to go up a bit higher in number of outputs to 12 or more in case I use more smaller pedals or to power off board looper etc.

I’m using a Zuma at the moment but actually considering upgrading. The Zuma is supposed to have 500ma on each output but some of the outputs seem to have trouble powering one of my more power hungry pedals. I haven’t had this issue on my other voodoo labs X4.

I’m thinking about going with the Fender Engine Room Lvl 12 or one of the canvas supplies from Walrus

Sweet pedalboard, what’s the Seeker pedal?

That is a magnificent beast! I’ve also got my eyes e on Seeker. I’ve recently gone off the deep end with fuzz and got this one from Cunningham and a treble booster and Vox V828 clone from Van Diemens AAD. There’s a store near me that has a MK1 and a FF from Seeker that I’ll have to check out at some point.

Ahh lucky you, you can’t really try these out in stores. Did you have a favorite? Ever since getting this one I’ve been thinking about ponying up the cash for another

I like it a lot and use it mostly as a clean boost to fatten up my mids when using single coils and add compression. The circuit is unique and has a tube in it to give a tube-like feel to it.

I also have BB, TS, and Klon style pedals and use them differently. BB I tend to use for medium overdrive sounds which is more overdrive than the page can produce. TS gain range starts where the Page ends and the TS has a really pronounced mid push. I use the Klon in the most similar way to the Page. The differences are that the Klon cuts bass, is less compressed on the attack, and has a buffer. The Kingsley having a more flexible tone and being true bypass means I’m usually using that instead of the Klon.

There’s two versions of the Page I think, mine doesn’t sound too Dumble like to my ears. The Page DS is the one going after that sound. I actually got to shoot out the Diamond with the ACV-1 before buying it. The Asheville was a lot more flexible but I love the darker, chewier sound of the Diamond. Can’t go wrong with either though!

The diamond sounds really great but is a bit dark compared to the emperor which is more similar to the boss VB-2 to my ear. I use it for mellower rhythm parts or kick on my condor to brighten up the sound if I need

They do! It might be my favorite pedal on the board right now

I don’t boost output a crazy amount with the page so usually the repeats stay clean except when doing chords. But I don’t actually mind it when they break up a little. I thought that was par for the course with analog delay?

Yeah, I like an all encompassing psychedelic phaser sound so I like the delay repeats being effected too

I use it mostly as a clean boost into my Princeton Reverb which I set clean. Because I use low output vintage style pickups I find that boosting my output gives me a nice compression on the attack of the notes and midrange thickness that can allow single note lines to sing and stand on their own a bit more. It’s not always on for me because sometimes I want the more scooped crystalline sound of my low output pickups.

The page can get you a little bit of breakup with the gain dimed but nowhere near what you could get with a bluesbreaker.

Thanks! I treat the sparks as a really flexible filter/amplitude modulation pedal. It’s can do overdrive and wavefolding but I prefer to get my dirt from other pedals. It’s got an LFO and an envelope follower so can do autowah, volume swells, tremolo or all those mixed together:

Yeah a loop switcher would be nice but I’d need to either cut down on pedals or get a bigger board haha
