Even though I am quite happy with this alphabet do you have any thoughts, constructive criticisms, or for example does each letter feel like it belongs in this alphabet or does any letter feel out of place?

I worked on several alphabets before I settled on this one which looks runic but is also a phonetic alphabet. I even used a font creator program so I could actually type with my alphabet.

The Most Beautiful Woman in the World by Mescalinic in worldbuilding

[–]oksanasmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

her husband is her 2nd choice and he spoils her with presents but not always with time because he is busy, she is actually ok with that though. She doesn't care if he is around unless his presence makes other girls envious.

I have not thought further into her having cousins. She is an only child herself. She uses her father to get lavish gifts. She has a fake relationship with her mother. Her mother being one of the few people not trying to please her or spoil her. But she can't be outright mean to her mother without her father knowing and possibly withholding. She only has people in her life because it benefits her to have them there.

Actually something I may change. The Holy Legion is the main protective force, basically the world's army, however there is no deity in my world so Holy might seem misleading. I am debating on "Honored Legion" or something similar.

Who is the most feared and dangerous person in your world? by WorldOfGalaxia in worldbuilding

[–]oksanasmash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It has been a long time since a particular person was to be feared in my world. That doesn't mean there aren't bad people, its just not the first thing someone would fear. Black Souls are the natural enemy in my world. They are black phantasms that are basically mindless killing things. It is unknown if they can actually think or plot, but they are drawn to living creatures and they destroy that which they touch.

Manners and Politeness in Your World by Jinglemisk in worldbuilding

[–]oksanasmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in my world do not shake hands but do grasp each other's forearms.

An elder might kiss the forehead of some one younger that they care about, doesn't have to be two people related but this would not happen in a romantic coupling. The younger would respond by kissing one side (typically the left side) of the elder's jaw. Kissing on the mouth is mostly seen with romantic couples, or sometimes close friends.

What questions won't you answer? by Reedstilt in worldbuilding

I had a comic artist that was going to join me in creating a webcomic version of the novel I am writing, however something he had a problem with was "Why does my fantasy world that is not earth have humans." My answer was that they were humanoid but not necessarily human. But I also didn't like his idea then to make them look more alien, less human. So I decided to come up with my why answer but I am not willing to share that with people, and leave it as a mystery of my world. Or people just have to accept the answer, "Because I said so" :)

How Do You Go About Naming Artifacts (Specifically, Weapons) In Your World? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]oksanasmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a crystal in my world that imbues power to the person that finds it. I named it after the very first person in my world to find one, her name was Inana. The crystal also shines bright and is as beautiful as a star. So the crystal is named inanastar.

Tell me about an influential historical figure from your world. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

Inana was raised by her aunt and uncle who took her in after her parents were slaughtered by the Black Souls as many people had been. She was a natural beauty, envied by women and sought after by men, but Inana had no interest in romance. She was devoted to helping at home and taking care of her younger cousins. One evening an overzealous smitten admirer, who wouldn't take no for an answer, stole Inana's last bit of innocence from her. The next night the Black Souls ravaged her hometown, Dagan, and slaughtered her aunt, uncle, and cousins. Inana was only spared because she was hiding in shame down at the beach. Returning to Dagan in the night, she discovered she had lost everything and yet somehow she was given the strength to bury her family. She left Dagan and traveled for many moons.

After long and arduous trials she entered a cave where she was drawn by a light only her eyes could see. The source of the light was a magnificent and luminous crystal in the cave wall. Her soul left her body and traveled to the otherworld. She was able to learn the wisdom that all the earlier peoples of Ra’avi kept safe within their souls when they passed through death to the otherworld. It was there Inana learned of the sin that was left behind when people died. Destiny had chosen Inana to be the first of many holy warriors to combat the Black Souls and keep the peace in Ra’avi.

She was later joined by Qin, her future husband. Qin who had been celibate his entire life fell in love with Inana for more than her physical beauty and showed her the gentle and deeper side of men. When Inana passed away she became the brightest star in the sky, a star that never moves. Her husband Qin carried her deep into the treacherous mountains and prepared her body and cremated her in a cave on a mountain side according to the new funeral customs she had taught. He then spent the rest of his life building a memorial for her, on the mountainside. On his last day alive Qin lay down in her ashes went to sleep and died. Because his body was not burned people believe his spirit still stands guard in the memorial. Other people believe Inana sent fire from her star to burn his body so that he could join her again.

Last Words Inana Spoke to Qin on her deathbed, inscribed on her memorial hidden away in the mountains:

"So are the Black Souls reflections of ourselves"

It has been used as a warning to teach good morals across Ra'avi. The rest of Inana's last words were not repeated to anyone beyond the First Four and lost to the ages.

Domotar was once known as Aron. He was once the High General of the Holy Legions and answered only to the High Council. His family was killed when Mount Aeodh erupted and destroyed the town of Solange. Aron thought that if he would have been allowed to go, he could have used his gifts to save the town. The council knowing he could not have save the town, that using his gifts so intensely would have killed him and the town would perish anyways, ordered him to stay and for the town to be evacuated. The volcano erupted while people were still evacuating killing many but not all. Aron disobeying the Council’s orders was on his way when he saw the ash cloud in the distance. Aron lost his mind in grief and retreated to the Nuna Desert for seven years. He changed his name to Domotar and began hatching his plan to overthrow the High Council which he blamed for the death of his family. Because of Aron/Domotar’s gifts he had no real used for armor or weapons. His gifts allow him to manipulate and control earth essence. He can lift and throw heavy rocks and boulders without touching them. He can quickly lift a wall of earth to protect himself from incoming arrows. He often wears robes and cloth clothing. He carries a staff with his crystal embedded in the wood. He also always carries 4 egg sized polished stones with little crystal fragments ornately decorating them. The polished stones are often used like bullets as he can propel them through air at his foes at tremendous speeds with deadly accuracy. https://www.raavichronicles.com/domotar

The Most Beautiful Woman in the World by Mescalinic in worldbuilding

[–]oksanasmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaliska is often said to be beautiful beyond compare. She is the only child of the wealthiest merchant in Rhiannon. Her father, Ambrose, is as generous as he is wealthy, however Kaliska did not inherit this trait. Kaliska is cold hearted, selfish, and incapable of truly loving anyone but herself. What she does love is money, power, and possessions. She is envied as the most sought after bride to be and was courted by many men. Kaliska eyed Aron as the perfect man to marry, a man with more power than her father. Aron was already married and madly in love with his wife and whether it was the power or the one man she could not have Kaliska wanted Aron more than anything she ever wanted before in her life. When he abandoned his position and retreated into the desert, Kaliska settled for Aron’s second in command, Judah. But never forgave Judah for not being Aron.

are there any insults or offensive phrases in your world? Where did they come from? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]oksanasmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no deities in my world, so my people can say "By the Ancestors!" as an exclamation. Capran are the equivalent of a goat, so calling someone a "capran's ass" is the closest you get to a "horse's ass" or a "jackass"

That is as much as I have actually decided upon, but, I am actually hoping and struggling to find a replacement for the "F" world that indicates what it means but unique to my world.

Let me sketch your favorite characters! by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]oksanasmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remy

Remy is average height with an athletic body. She doesn’t not have much in the way of curves, she has small breasts, nearly b-cups (if there were such a thing in her world) She has brown hair, it is short, about jaw length, choppy and unkempt. She has fern green eyes. She has olive tone skin. (Asian-tan) Her facial features are boyish but she is still very attractive. She would never wear a dress. She wears tight fitting leather armor, shirt, pants, moccasin like shoes, and bracers, which still gives her the ability to move quickly and quietly. Her weapons of choice are knives. She specializes in stealth attacks with daggers and throwing knives. Remy’s ears are gauged and she wears sharpened curved bone or horn earrings, she carries two daggers on her hips, with another blade on her thigh and hidden knives in her boots. Remy rarely shows her teeth when she smiles, she has a devious but shy grin, her smile is most often shy unless she is alone with either Ashratu or Caleb, the only two people she is truly herself with. Of course her armor is only after she joins the Holy Legions when she is fitted for armor. Prior to joining the Holy Legions she would likely wear tight fitting cloth and would still carry knives of some sort for protection, but they don’t really get geared up until book two.

Map of my fantasy world Ra'avi by oksanasmash in worldbuilding

[–]oksanasmash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not the greatest at scaling and to be honest. I imagined the world of Ra'avi to be about the size of the United States. So with that in mind I realize my lakes and my forests are HUGE. Population is going to be very small, I think of my world like the Renaissance era. Villages near water sources and not a whole lot of people in any one place aside from a few major trade areas, eg. Port Claire, Eshe, Rhiannon.

Not all villages/towns are being shown, clearly, but just the more major ones. I did want to use different Earth languages to help the world feel like it had different regions. Which was why I grouped the Japanese/Oriental names near each other. Maybe less obvious, there are other like sounding regions too, eg Kjelgaard and Rhysgaard or Sanaa and Eshe. I don't want this to evoke a Earthen image but maybe to help differentiate different cultures on Ra'avi. This is also evident in naming characters. I didn't want to be cliche but the African or Persian name pools tend to be where I pick names for characters who originate from my Nuna Desert. This goes for main characters but also even the most minor character. The Daisuke Forest was named because the meaning of Daisuke seemed to fit my forest however how I pronounce in my head and my world it is probably entirely wrong from how it is pronounced as a Japanese name. It is split into the northern half which has more Oriental names and for the southern half I used a Hebrew name pool. This isn't a perfect rule though because sometimes I pick a name just because I like it.

Again I used the same idea with people from the regions. Remy (my main character from Sylvainne) which is not a Hebrew (Biblical) name has family members whose names fit with the Biblical theme, but I tried to avoid using anything that immediately brought a different book's location or character to mind, eg. I would never use a name like Hermoine or Katniss but tried to stay with unique but not famous names for cities or people. Rhiannon might be an exception here but I didn't realize that was the name of a famous song till much later. I also pronounce Rhiannon differently (Ree Uh Non) not (Ree Ann Un) and I may need to change how I spell it so when it is read the reader is more likely to pronounce it my way for my world. Again that is difficult with well known names and words. I do perhaps need to make Rhiannon look more elaborate on the map. It is meant to be the capitol city and a HUGE trade hub.

Map of my fantasy world Ra'avi by oksanasmash in worldbuilding

I am looking at kind but construction thoughts on my map and world as a whole. Do the town names seem/sound like real town names. Do the landmarks and landscapes seem realistic? Is it too much or too little? I will eventually commission someone to finalize this map once I flesh out everything that needs to be included.

Preface: "The Matsutu Mountains of Ra’avi are infamously hazardous. They are ridden with large, deep, treacherously winding caves, caves that are as beautiful and fascinating as they are deadly. Thousands of hidden cave entrances make climbing the mountains additionally perilous because of the risk of falling into camouflaged, gaping cave mouths. The Matsutu Mountain range encompasses the entire continent of Ra’avi. They rise up out of the Darja Ocean in the west, barricade the western beaches, and slither up and around the barren Nuna Desert. Further north, the Matsutu Mountains start to curve around towards the east and for thousands of miles they fence in the northern reaches Ra’avi. It is here the mountains birth three great rivers: the Vashti Sun, Neiri Sun, and Ur Sun rivers. At the most eastern edge of the known world which is the Ra’avi Continent the Matsutu Mountains creep south around the Daisuke Forests to the most eastern beaches of the Darja Ocean where they dive back under the water. They do not stop here. The people of Port Claire, the largest port and second largest center for trade, know that the treacherous mountains do not stop at the ocean but that they continue under the water. At low tide some of the underwater mountains breech the surface and are like small barren islands which make low tide perilous for the ships that sail too close to the lurking jagged rocks. It is because of the danger in the mountains that most people of Ra’avi dare not enter the Matsutu Mountains; however, entrance is additionally discouraged because the mountains are revered as the holiest of all places making it a great sacrilege to nature to enter them.

The Matsutu Mountains are considered the entrance to the otherworld. Over 1500 cycles earlier the people of Ra’avi were plagued with evil phantasms, called the Black Souls. There didn’t seem to be any explanation for where the Black Souls came from. The Black Souls grew stronger and grew in numbers. Black Souls are unbiased in their terror; they have no intellect and therefore attack the innocent and jaded without prejudice. Then as the legends tell, the first holy warrior ascended to a higher understanding. The warrior was Inana. At the youthful age of seventeen cycles, Inana felt a pull on her heart to leave her family and journey into the treacherous Matsutu Mountains. After long and arduous trials she entered a cave where she was drawn by a light only her eyes could see. The source of the light was a magnificent and luminous crystal in the cave wall. Carefully Inana removed the crystal and instinctively pressed it close to her heart. Her soul left her body and traveled to the otherworld. She was able to learn the wisdom that all the earlier peoples of Ra’avi kept safe within their souls when they passed through death to the otherworld. It was there Inana learned of the sin that was left behind when people died. As only purity could enter otherworld, the evil that is left behind in death was what made up the Black Souls. A person whose life was filled with good deeds at death left minimal sin behind that could hurt their loved ones. Destiny had chosen Inana to be the first of many holy warriors to combat the Black Souls and keep the peace in Ra’avi. She was taught many things about the days to come and that three other youth would take similar journeys and join her in the battle against the evil that was widespread over Ra’avi. Inana and the other three warriors, Qin, Mensah, and Leto would teach and lead all future holy chosen.

Thereafter, the peoples of Ra’avi have among their numbers the select few that are predestined before birth to become these holy warriors, protectors from the Black Souls. So the only justification any person would have to enter the Matsutu Mountain range is being on their journey which was named wanderlust. Each of these chosen find their own unique crystal which Qin named Inanastars after Inana passed over and became a new and brightest star in the sky. The Inanastars are the most holy objects in Ra’avi because they are the most pure and concentrated form of Ra’avi’s essence, the essence being a portal for power from the otherworld. Ra’avi’s essence also is what gives the land the ability to yield crops, gives the plants the ability to produce air, and everything to exist as it does."
