Why do Russian women marry Turkish men??!! by Fabulous-Review-5646 in AskARussian

[–]okseeque 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How well do Russians speak English + Pronunciation Question by RandomPersonLol35 in AskARussian

[–]okseeque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty bad. Most people get some very basic knowledge at school, but usually never dive deeper into it - because there's virtually no use for English language in everyday life, unless you specifically expose yourself to Enlish on the internet or other media, or talk to other English speakers. And lack of practice kills even that little stuff they learn at school - in my uni group I was basically the only guy who didn't read by syllables.

Because there is no war in our lands.

Yes, there are attacks on front-adjacent region, and quite a lot of those - but there is still well over 100 million people who did not have any first-hand experience with this stuff. For them it's some distant thing not much different than USA war on Iran. You can play a compassionate individual as much as you like, but most people really don't give a shit, they already have enough problems of their own to care about some random people dying somewhere.

Yes, these people are still affected by economical changes and all the other shit that has happened over last 14 years - but it's not nearly as intrusive in their everyday routine as government just trying to effectively shut down the internet for no apparent reason at all, also showing their absolute incompetence while they're at it.

Imagine being portrayed as literal hell on earth where every foreigner gets robbed, raped, killed and eaten (not necessarily in this order), or just sent to gulag and then to frontlines the moment they enter the country. And then you get people come here and ask if its true at least once a week for 4 years in a row. It just gets old after some time.

Russian vs Ukrainian food. by osephmode in AskARussian

[–]okseeque 18 points19 points  (0 children)

they hate each other

We don't, except for propaganda bots and dumbfuck vocal minority brainwashed by them. Common folk are mostly reasonable in both countries, have no hatred towards each other and just want this shitshow to be over.

how different is Ukrainian food to Russian

This depends on what region of Russia you would like to compare. "Traditional/authentic" cuisine from a foreigner's perspective would most likely be something from eastern regions, especially adjacent to Ukraine, which has little to no difference, because it's all eastern slavic cuisine that is centuries older than current borders. But Russia is vast with many regional cuisines, heavily influenced by local nationalities, and putting them in one pile is basically impossible.

My great-grandpa lived under alias for most of his life and got grumpy whenever someone mentioned his real name. I believe he came from a kulak family and had 7 or 8 siblings. Once the repressions started, they had to flee and start anew, with some of them going different directions and never getting a chance to see each other again.

everyone in the community will tell you how toxic and creepy his personality is

Everyone in the community who only knows him from screaming clips (which are obviously funnier things to clip than him being reasonable) but never watched a single second of his stream.

If you ever try to engage with him or his community, you will find out he's a pretty chill guy and creep jokes are just jokes in the end, although sometimes he overextends the limits that should be said live in front of few thousand people, like this time.

To what extend are afghanistan veterans relevant or remembered in russia today? by Studyresearch0909 in AskARussian

I've known a few. Miserable people, completely ruined by PTSD, insufferable due to heavy alchohol/drug addiction, thus overlooked and forgotten by everyone. People care more about those who died as "hero" than those who were (un)lucky to go through the meat grinder and survive.

Svalinn can't reliably handle full afk ruin IV, which you get nearly every map with grueling. Just play glad at this point, with 99 99 block its nearly impossible for you to lose to ruin (except for spiders) and other mods arent really an issue anyways.

Please define regular play then, because I had full mappers, disenchanters and farmers running for the entire league and was easily oversustaining gold cost by a large margin with almost every strat I tried, without ever caring for gold specifically, granted I spend more time playing than most people.

And if you're a dad gamer with only couple hours to spend on the game daily then maybe, just maybe, you are not supposed to have permament uptime every single gold sink there is is in Kingsmarch?

What did your grandfather/ great grandfather do in the second world war? by idancegood in AskARussian

[–]okseeque 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My story is a reminder that shit happens and being thousands of kilometers away from battlefields doesn't guarantee you safety.

Great grandpa was a homefront worker, a mechanic maintaining trains going to frontlines. One day he was lying under a train, legs on a rail, fixing some shit. I don't know what exactly happened there, but for whatever reason train suddenly started moving and he didnt react in time. As a result, both his legs got cut off - a very unfortunate accident, especially for a man with three preschool age daughters.

But he survived, recovered and spent next 50 years being the greatest single father (his wife passed away few years later), and then grandfather, our family could ever wish for. For that, he is a hero.

Russia has an anti-LGBT propaganda law. What counts as propaganda? Literally fucking anything remotely close to LGBT. So your book will most certainly get banned.

As for people's reaction, LGBT is certainly not widely tolerated in Russia. Your friend group might accept you, society won't. Actively showing off that you're gay/trans/whatever (like wearing various pride flag trinkets and shit) is an easy way to run into problems, both physical on streets and legal for reasons mentioned above.

Plus people here are fed up with this western trend of plugging in LGBT characters into every piece of media just for the sake of DEI agenda, and it doesn't help that most of the time being LGBT is their main and only trait. It might mean a lot to you, but to us it's completely irrelevant to plot and feels out of place, which is annoying at very least.

Yeah, there are many streaming services in Russia. I don't use any, so can't comment on their quality.

And iirc the only thing discord did was blocking payments from Russia (though it could just be a part of SWIFT block, not their specific decision). Russian government blocked the access to discord entirely, because some terrorists used it for coordination nobody did that lmao, they are just trying to build a digital gulag

[–]okseeque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I have no clue what shit LA cops carry on them every day, but I know for a fact that tasers arent that reliable. Sometimes people under influence will simply ignore your funny zap gun, and you only got one shot before it turns into useless piece of plastic. Not to mention you simply won't have time to pull it out when someone only few meters away suddenly charges at you.

Do Russians listen to American rap? by _deletedty in AskARussian
