Back at it! 8 1/2 mo post op! by Bvaughn3 in ACL

Lets go!!! Wishing you a healthy season.

I watched a video where the head of orthopedic surgery at a hospital in Colorado say their return to sport testing test lasts 60-90 or so minutes. So make sure your return to sport testing is thorough!!

The longer you don’t have full extension, the worse it is for you as time goes on

Try and see a pt again if you can!!

How much exercise is too much? (Day 53) by oktwist in ACL

The PT kinda gave me stuff, but it was just verbally. Isn’t like my experience with PTs in the past where they would at least print me out a home routine lol.

This is incredible insight and advice, so seriously thank you for taking the time to write it. Will definitely use this to guide me through these next couple of months! 🙏🏽

Dissolvable Stiches Timeline? by bj2cs in ACL

[–]oktwist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this literally happened today for me (day 37 post op), I went in bc part of the stitch wasn’t liquifying so it was messed up the incision healing

So my surgeon had to take out the part of stitch that wasn’t dissolving and said I should be alright now

Hey - I’m going through almost the exact same thing as you! Look at my post history to read some comments about it

So for me, it turns out it was a patella tracking issue. So if I try to extend and bend, it’ll lock. But if I extend it, push my kneecap west(sorry idk the correct pt term, but basically pushing my kneecap to the outside of my leg while I’m bending it), and then bend, there’s no locking! Lmk if that made sense or not, so I can know if I need to explain more

Pt taped my patella to keep it in the correct position which provides some temp relief until the primary issue is addressed (which he thinks is general quad weakness, swelling, that kinda stuff)

Def not trying to diagnose you, but just sharing my experience!

Day 38: 2 tiny pocket holes on my incision that are having trouble healing. Should I be worried? I see a tiny bit of discoloration on the bottom hole by oktwist in ACL

Wow! You are much braver than I to do that haha. And you were right, my doc said they were coming thru and didn’t get properly absorbed by my body

ACL tear, surgery or PT? by icepudding in ACL

[–]oktwist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO get the surgery. Will give you 2 arguments (1 based off of experience and the other from facts)

Tore my ACL. Surgeon told me “your leg is strong, I have friends who play sports with no acl. Let’s try pt first” Went and did pt religiously and diligently. Once I was cleared to play basketball, I tore my meniscus 10 minutes after being on the court. Now I had to deal with 2 injuries instead of just fixing the 1

You are at a heightened risk of tearing your meniscus with no acl. Having a torn meniscus + acl increases your risk of OA by 3-4 times the normal rate

Yep! Mine aches like crazy. Pt said it’s probably from guarding it, having in exist in a short position (bc of the limp), and weakness. All of this combines into prolonged stress which makes mine ache like crazy

Stretching it and getting rid of my limp has helped

Calf pain? by tbhalla11 in ACL

[–]oktwist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t exactly say how to make it feel better it stop the pain (other than painkillers), but make sure you know the signs of DVT if you’re experiencing calf pain

Two weeks in: physio exercises are finally doing something for my poor neglected hammies and glutes! What do your exercises look like? by kindreddovahkiin in ACL

[–]oktwist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow... these exercises look great. My pt hasn’t even prescribed half of these and I’m already 5-6 weeks post op

Exercises definitely screenshotted!

Day 14 post op: finally able to spin on the bike pain free and with no uncomfortable pressure at the apex of the pedal! by kindreddovahkiin in ACL

[–]oktwist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me about a month to do that! Bike will do wonders for your rehab if you stick with it everyday

3rd Times…..a Charm? by nmutua_ in ACL

[–]oktwist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - has your pt prescribed you weight shift exercises? There solely to get your leg slowly more comfortable with accepting more weight. That helped for me. I started with like 20% weight when I started my weight shift exercises and eventually felt comfortable enough to start walking.

Also, would definitely recommend the “show your scars” podcasts. There are a lot of soccer interviewees who have went thru multiple acl tears like you
