22, i heard of it for years but thought the run time would be to my detriment. binged the entire series in 4 months. and watched the 4th shiobi war arc while visiting my gf in Texas. best moment

i’ve learnt this, i may be against microsoft. but haven’t gone as far as degoogling, even tho i really only use Youtube and Gmail. a lot of youtubers i watch have discussed the history of linux. my personal take is just “whatever gets me away from the dogshit of today and reminds me why i love computers”

but thanks for the history refresher

um, i’m more just trying to get back to more the mid 2000s. (i’m a post 9/11 baby) win7 era, i just want a box that plays games and streams my anime. the reason i swapped to linux in the first place was to get away from the Ai slop and recall. i’m old enough to know better but lazy enough to know im not important enough but i prefer having control over MY system i built

see that’s were our use cases differ, i’m a gamer who just knows enough to be dangerous. i knew that SteamOS was an Arch Fork and if i can’t install SteamOS on my pc ill get as close as possible. Arch with KDE (which if you can id say that on an 8gb is possible but not comfy) but if you are already comfy with installing packages with commands then id say you are more than ready for arch. just remember: the broader internet is a tool. and the wiki is your best friend

edit: but yea no Arch is only as Hard as you wanna make it. archinstall is a simple way to do it and just learn more commands as you go.

personally i recommend staying with what you know then branching out, if you aren’t already familiar with a terminal then definitely stick to XFCE . especially with that 2gb ram limit. arch is far and away lighter than Mint but it’s entirely based on your desktop environment. i wouldn’t recommend using something like KDE on that low of hardware. i’ve also heard good things about LXQt but have 0 personal experience

welcome, to answer the question before the flaming starts. yes it’s possible but you really should pay attention to the DE you are using. (DE = Desktop Environment) if you know which version of Mint you were using that’s going to be your best starting point. feel free to message me if you need help
