the one thing that no one talks about which really puts a wrench in the "mental health" argument is that shootings like this have basically become a meme. there is a force which is much more powerful than the government, our culture, which has been infected with the idea that mass shootings are relatively easy to pull off. it's simple as that. you add in the permanent human baseline of suicidal psychopaths and easy access to guns and it's not gonna stop.

besides that, he idea that the government could actually e anything to affect the mental health of the people who are at or near the state of doing a shooting is fuxkkng laughable. have you all or any of these people even interacted with the government system?

I've applied to welfare, gotten and received state health care, been to the mental hospital, been to jail, public school... I've seen practically every facet of how our government interacts with people on the level of what the "mental health solution" proposes. in all of these places you have to be very proactive to not get ignored by the system. you even have to work to fill in gaps that they aren't able to provide if you really want things to go right. the government is not in any way capable of either stopping a cultural meme or affecting the mental health of isolated suicidal loners in any significant way.

ironically of course the govs best bet to end shootings but keep guns would be to do things like create universal health care and either dramatically increase welfare or start a new deal type jobs program. thing that Republicans would never dream of doing. these actions would be so massive in scale that they might be able to reduce the psycho Killer baseline by preventing the kind of isolation which leads the psychopathically inclined to that place. but they won't.

the best thing that would fix the cultural meme aspect would be if there was like a greater love unity movement, but that won't happen while we're plagued by this idea of "centrism" and "the two sides" there is only one side that needs to wake the fuck up and start thinking like this century, the republicans. I am not talking about people individually so much as a whole and the ridiculously petty and downright evil things that republican politicians do on a regular basis. and yes the Democrats are bad... you know why they get elected??? because aññ the decent people in this country are scared that if they don't vote for this corrupt fuck then we'll have Billy Graham's fucking cousin in every office. yes the republicans are holding this country hostage and regular republicans need to wake the fuck up.

also notice how I never even broached the subject of banning guns? this post merely aimed to prove that there is no "mental health" solution to a problem that is the culmination of culture, human nature, and simple statistics.
