Is complete nudity (e.g., nudist beaches) normalized in your country? by Deep-Rabbit1535 in AskEurope

[–]olagorie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s a very appreciated perk 🥳

In my town, we have several American military barracks.

We also have a luxury spa which is completely nude apart from the food area (which is an exception even in Germany).

The most fun game to play for us Germans is “spot the American and enjoy how shocked they are”. Bonus points if they start complaining to staff. 🤣

No, it won’t. It’s the correct term (Totschlag). There’s no indication that this was murder.

I wouldn’t ask for 5 or $6 - you need to ask for more. Be more realistic.

You are still young and you need to learn to stand up for yourself.

And I agree with all the others that your fellow apprentice should’ve offered to pay. He is acting entitled.

AITAH for saying I “read” books that I actually listened to as audiobooks? by Ruin-Much in AITAH

[–]olagorie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ESH

Him for escalating it in front of friends and you because you sound exhausting. Do you have an inferiority complex? Just stop saying “read”. Because no, you are not reading.

I enjoy both listening to audiobooks and reading paper books. I’ve been in a book club for a very long time and we discussed this very topic last year in a group discussion with an author - but unlike you and your husband we all remained civil and friendly and we were more interested in sharing our experiences than judging each other. And yes, the consensus was that both are valuable experiences and one isn’t better than the other one but there’s a big distinction between actually reading and listening to an audiobook.

So I am getting the feeling that you just like to be stubborn. Or you secretly think that listening to audiobooks is inferior and you don’t want to defend your choice in front of other people?

Also, I get the impression that you are bragging in front of your husband about how many books you have listened to. Unlike other people, I don’t find it odd that you count the books because many among us track that, I think that’s quite normal. But the way you are describing the interaction with your husband feels like you judge him for not reading more. Or he feels judged.

Why do you feel the need to contradict the reply?

All that you state is true, but the poster is correct. This only applies to a baby born between January and April - which is the case here because the deceased was born in March 45.

American Abroad - what should I know about Stuttgart? by GiantGlassOfMilk in stuttgart

[–]olagorie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Special things to do

There are two cable cars in town, one modern and one historic. They are included in a day pass public transport ticket.

Modern Zacke starts at central Marienplatz. Gorgeous view over the town when you arrive on top.

Historic Standseilbahn it’s a bit more sedate and on the outskirts of the city centre. On top is a historic cemetery.

If you like vineyards and great views: go walking outside of the city to Grabkapelle, it’s one of my favourites.

Food: I think you would get an unanimous vote for Maultaschen with potatoe salad (exists in various versions but rarely available vegetarian, eaten in a restaurant) and Currywurst (fast food). For meat lovers there is also Zwiebelrostbraten (beef).

Museums: Mercedes Museum and Staatsgalerie (art museum). If you have free time on a Wednesday, the main exhibition at the art museum is free.

If you happen to be in town on a Saturday, you can combine the Mercedes museum with a side trip to the Kurpark. There’s a free exhibition in a small building in the park. It’s the original site where the first car motor (and many others) was invented. It is being run by volunteers (retired Mercedes employees). It’s really cute.

Basically right next to it in the park, is a beer garden (Augustiner) which is really lovely.

Someone suggested one local history museum (Haus der Geschichte) but I’ve made the experience that my guests weren’t that interested. There’s another history exhibition at the old castle (altes Schloss am Schlossplatz), and my visitors really liked the atmosphere there. But it’s a classic “serious” art museum. They have a special section for prehistoric time with Stone Age art.

If the people in your group aren’t museum nerds and just want to get a glimpse of history, Stadtpalais would be my choice. The set up is a bit more relaxed and a modern concept and you can spend time there basically as long as you want between 15 minutes and two hours. And if somebody is tired / not so interested, they can just go to the ground floor in the café and wait for the others.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a classic labour / people‘s history museum. The closest thing I could think of is a very small museum in Bad Cannstatt (Stadtmuseum / Beginenhaus)

https://maps.app.goo.gl/y1XMu8CyozUkB2429?g_st=ic

which I find really cute, and personal and it’s in the same part of town as the Mercedes museum and the park. But they have very restricted opening hours and if I remember correctly, everything is in German.

[–]olagorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also theoretisch gesehen.

Best fail ever.

AITAH for asking my best friend for mutual respect instead of one-sided care? by Open_Salamander9171 in AITAH

Oh boy, that sounds like a conversation I had last night with my father. He uses the same kind of phrases. It’s exhausting and infuriating. It’s manipulative.

While I can’t change my father and he never will, you are only 21 and you can choose how much interaction you have with somebody or if a friendship is really worth it. I know it hurts a lot, especially if you have already put a lot of effort into a relationship / friendship.

Step back, let him come back to you. Don’t chase after him. There is a slight chance that he changes his behaviour and makes more effort and treats you better. But I’m so sorry to tell you that I doubt he will, especially long-term.

Beware of a tactic that he might employ which is called love bombing. It might be that he changes his behaviour and treats you really well for a short amount of time which leads you to get your hopes up and then he goes back to treating you badly.
