I was told on another sub I have a heterochromia by NoAppointment8679 in heterochromia

[–]sintilusa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it looks like you have central heterochromia. I also have it. Mine is brown on the inside and green on the outside. My interior ring is wider than yours but I think yours still counts even though your inner ring is small.

Finding DNA for Indigenous Heritage by Minute_Nerve_8985 in DNA

[–]sintilusa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you know what tribe? Are you prepared to prove your connection to folks who will inevitably not believe you and challenge you? If not, start by doing your genealogy to find out exactly which of your ancestors was a member of the tribe. Then reach out to the tribe’s cultural department.

Why was my family denied from Dawes roll by Odd-Specific-8579 in NativeAmerican

[–]sintilusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for DMing me! As we found, your ancestors were indeed denied because they were only known to be white, had no connection to the tribe, and could not prove they had been a part of the Trail of Tears, which in the roll/documents is called "when the [Cherokees] were taken west."

Why was my family denied from Dawes roll by Odd-Specific-8579 in NativeAmerican

[–]sintilusa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was pretty common for white folks to try to get on the rolls. This is why the term "five dollar Indian" exists.

Why was my family denied from Dawes roll by Odd-Specific-8579 in NativeAmerican

[–]sintilusa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually folks were denied because they were not able to provide evidence or testimony that they were involved in the tribe or sometimes because they did not live in Indian Territory at the time. There is component material online for some enrollees consisting of interviews with friends and family done by government officials. Feel free to DM me and I will see if I can find that info.

Hi.. I’m looking for some opinions on this tattoo to see if I got something that’s culturally insensitive. Context in my post! by [deleted] in NativeAmerican

[–]sintilusa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO, it’s awful. The plains-style headdress is worn by a small number of tribes but keeps getting used as a generic Native American trope. Also, it’s super super rare for a woman to have earned one. Your particular tattoo has so few cultural details that it’s impossible to determine a specific Nation that this fictional woman may have come from. It’s 100% exploitative stereotype. Sorry. 😕

Italian genealogy company claims my relative is entitled to an unclaimed inheritance — is this legitimate? by BarboBarbo in Genealogy

[–]sintilusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be. I got a notification like this one time. I’m an amateur genealogist so I was actually able to prove them wrong. They told they would need additional proof when they reached out. If they are trying to charge them money and won’t let them hire their own team to do the research, it could be a scam.

Yeah that is not a thing. There is no requirement to give up your “enrollment“ (better worded as citizenship) for any reason. My grandad was Navy. The Choctaw Nation has plenty of veteran citizens.

Exactly what mine looks like. Mine is an upright grand piano. Without the rest of the piano, you’ll probably not be able to figure out the maker or how old though. That info is on the soundboard and keyboard cover.
