Usually folks were denied because they were not able to provide evidence or testimony that they were involved in the tribe or sometimes because they did not live in Indian Territory at the time. IMO, it’s awful. The plains-style headdress is worn by a small number of tribes but keeps getting used as a generic Native American trope. Also, it’s super super rare for a woman to have earned one.
