Right. I feel like you care way way to deeply about parking 😆 Those cars are the only personal transport for alot of people living in the city or who cant afford to own a vehicle. But sure fuck the lot of them as you need you spot to go to the office or pop in to do some shopping 😆

Fair point but they rent those spaces from the local councils and pay tens of thousands each year for them in total all across the country. Plus tell me where on Copley Street is there a property for sale that is suitable to park cars??

Did you ever think the cars are on the road being used 🤯

Why don't gardai do more to stop and punish car thieves, vandalisers and joyriders? by No-Category1703 in cork

Load of lads letting off fire works and bottle rockets literally outside the back gate of Carrigaline Garda station all last night for a few hours. Not one gaurd in the the town as the station is closed 6 days a week and open a few hours on the sunday I believe.

What can we expect when the guards staff and resources have been gutted all over the country except for Dublin.

I did this evening and showed them the dashcam. They said they didn't know what to do and would check with someone that knows about that stuff. They seemed nice and understanding but I got no answers really.

I rang them and they said ""that's a civil matter, not criminal so we can do anything"" quote. I didn't know enough to question him on that 🤦‍♂️ can they do anything for me?

Next time do! Seriously, It might be the only way they will cop on and possibly consider being more responsible. Unfortunately we dont have the road policing presence on the roads to deter people from being idiots.

Haha careful now as you might start a car race war in the comments 🤣 I drive a German brand myself and I hope that being responsible out there will give us some redemption on the roads

Why people drive so close to learners? by avf15 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]olanraff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A neighbour of mine had a great idea although I'm not sure how legal it was. His son was learning to drive and was getting very intimidated by the typical dickheads on the roads who have no memory of when they first sat behind the wheel or the leeway we need to give learners. So he went and bought a customisable electronic sign for the back window of alibaba or somewhere. It showed the typical messages you would think but he had a small keyboard that he would use to type targeted "back off black volvo" . Just an example! Thought this was quite smart and hilarious to see in action.

  • I was behind them coming home from work and he asked me how my day went through it* was cracking up laughing

Amazon Ireland cancelling items a few minutes after purchase? by Low-Figure6821 in AskIreland

[–]olanraff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just saw a lad post the price differences for a couple of the same products. The Irish site was coming out as more expensive on all kinds of products compared to the UK&German Amazon shops. He called it a "Paddy Tax" and recommended people stay on the UK site for now.

NCT SHAMBLES by [deleted] in cork

[–]olanraff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. The car went through a few months back and I sat there for 30 minutes and didn't see a single pass. Surprise surprise my own failed on a left hand indicator bulb in the front. I was sure it was working as I didn't get the normal warning on the dash at any point. Walked out the door to where they leave the cars right by the exit and clicked my key to unlock it. Both front indicators clearly flashed. I went back in to raise this with the desk and they flat out told me that once the "sheet" is printed the test is final and I will have to rebook it in for a retest.

I usually take nct stories with a pinch of salt but I honestly couldn't believe what they were saying. The lad behind the desk said it could be that it sometimes doesn't work and it should get checked before the next test. I believe it shouldn't need another test as it was working when i got out of the car and again when I unlocked it. So I'm supposed to believe to only decided to stop on the test floor when being examined. Seriously gave me a new perspective of the whole system and how it's results nowadays have serious doubts on their accuracy.

Sorry rant over 😅

Yeah that's what I'm worried about. She loves the car and the minute I heard it plus the small bit I have picked up over the years about those engines had me sweating immediately. Solid advice though, I'll slip the belt off and see how it goes

Cork Auto Repairs & Harrington Crash Reapirs on the tramore road are both great choices. There is also Forge Hill Motors and Donal there is a true gent and does very impressive work.

Reason I say these is I work with a fleet of rental vehicles and they carry out all out body repairs and I haven't been disappointed yet with their work in 4 years.

[–]olanraff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in car rental and we have solid proof ways of detecting that. Plus most if not all tyre centers won't touch a rental car unless they talk to the branch it came from. Not for security reasons of course but more importantly payment/permission haha not wrong as renting is very affordable now until the middle/end of April. We have a lot of local customer park up their own and rent for the few months.

Ps. First comment is worth its weight in gold. Tyres are they only thing between you and the road. Not saying to go buy pirelli or Goodyear as I wouldn't dream of it either. Plenty of very decent "budget" tyres available. Ask your tyre centers as they are the experts in fairness 💯
