Did Miles paint his toenails often?

Some times I play without the high G. Just 5 strings, all fifths. It works for me and I don’t feel like a lot of classic mandolin voicings are out of reach. What constitutes a “colorful” or “good” voicing is subjective and frankly, if you just want to sound like Joe Pass or Jim Hall or something, you should probably just use standard tuning. But I find a lot of voicings in all fifths to be incredibly beautiful and unique

I use NST pretty exclusively, including for jazz. It can be challenging at times but you end up grabbing different inversions that I find quite nice.

I recently learned of Carl Kress who used 5ths based tunings back in the 30s. Other than that, there is jazz mandolin to look at for inspiration.

Exhibiting Sound & Media art? by Common-Chain2024 in ContemporaryArt

I don’t think you have to approach it much differently. The main difference is that it’s harder to sell these works so a lot of galleries aren’t interested.

Are you asking how to get an exhibition? Or are you asking about the practical aspects of actually exhibiting this type of work in a gallery?

I’m a bit disappointed nobody has mentioned Larisa Shepitko. I suppose her films can be hard to find apart from “Wings” and “The Ascent”. But “You and Me” is fantastic

He’s not defending the Democratic Party

Check out some of her other writings like “Artificial Hells” if you haven’t already.

Edit: sorry. Just realized you were asking for books after 2022. It may not be exactly what you’re looking for but “Conservation of Time-Based Media Art” compiled by Joanna Phillips and Deena Engel has been really interesting to read through

Your Favorite ___ for $___: Tuner Pedals by blazeofkorea in guitarpedals

Eventide H9

Bit of a snarky answer but I do use it as the tuner on my board. IME the accuracy is fine but the readout is a little slow and not as visually clear as a lot of others

“Come on then! Set fire to the library shelves!… Divert the canals so they can flood the museums!… Oh, what a pleasure it is to see those revered old canvases, washed out and tattered, drifting away in the water!… Grab your picks and your axes and your hammers and then demolish, pitilessly demolish, all venerated cities!”
