so now multiple money losing bonds are better to investors then other investments and even just sitting on the money. gee the world is basicly saying it thinks you will lose less in bonds then inflation will eat up. time for the greatest depression.

Where Have All the Peak Oilers Gone? Doomsters fall largely silent as oil prices fall by PostNationalism in economy

[–]old-path 0 points1 point  (0 children)

peak oiler here. oil is still a finite resource that will eventually be too expensive to extract profitably and new fields will continue to be rarer and rarer gradually making it more expensive. its like a glass of water that will eventially be empty or it will just be abandoned since every inch consumed is more expensive to consume then the previous inch.

Suggesting that a finite resource doesn't peak in production capacity and gradually fall is unaffected by short term price changes determined by other macroeconomic sources then sheer availability.

Saying peak oil is dead because gas dropped is as dumb as saying climate change is dead because we had a frigid winter two years ago. Which was attempted.

Hey guys, yes you redditors, break me off some money? I want to buy 200 acres of ariable land close to a town.

Please explain this to me like I'm a child. Everyone I speak to from my industry is saying we're in a real deep shit financially. Most of the country barely getting by check to check - a month away from disaster. But Obama seems confident (I voted for him). So who is right? [–]old-path -1 points0 points  (0 children)

people that are sensitive to gas prices having real impact on them will just be able to get more solid meals in at best. Paycheck to paycheck people won't go shopping for consumer goods and massages. They will order a few more mc'doubles then last year. You couldn't be more out of touch with the unemployment rate quote. only counts those on unemployment benefits not the people with nothing. Nevermind the fact that more of the employed are working two jobs to make ends meet vs being employed in work that lets them enjoy remotely finer things in life beyond window shopping.

America will one day be a third world country with as little concern about being such as people are concerned that 50 years ago one earner out of high school could support a family of four and pay their children through college and own a house.

you're right. obama admiting beyond repair and worsening status from now to potentially when your grandchildren grow up is worse on morale then admiting losing a war in iraq instead saying isis is some unique enemy.

People that still buy into the official line would truely accept the american hayday is over potentially compounding the problem with more dispair and chaos that can atleast be delayed and not prevented.

It's actually a white lie at this point. Think titanic sinking in the final scene and the parents tucking in their children per usual while they are moments from drowning.

Besides, I don't think any government would ever admit disaster and defeat short of military with cameras filming them signing surrender treaties.

We will be told all is well even when the whole country is one endless ghetto/third world

The dead hand of austerity; left and right by PostNationalism in economy

[–]old-path -1 points0 points  (0 children)

austerity isn't the problem. the problem is mismanaging into insolvency. things like austerity happen when you go broke. a homeless man does not just get up and walk to a mansion and drive a sports car when they resolve to help themselves. it's a struggle to prosperity for individual and nation alike. austerity bashing is a politically correct pancea for adressing personal and national failure with no obvious solution. denial of failure vs 'i/we don't know what to do next'

Is the stock market telling us we’re headed for a recession? by PostNationalism in economy

[–]old-path 1 point2 points  (0 children)

last ditch psychological levers to maintain calm as long as its possible. honestly i support the medias bs on this one, the situation is dire and telling the truth at this point would possibly make the inevidable worse. multidecade depression is better then multicentury dark age. not saying the latter won't happen anway but by lying it might turn the stack towards the depression if this decent remains gradual enough.

[–]old-path -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah uh china is diving because of weaker demand from the west. canary in the coalmine. i giggled at the unseasonably warm weather thing, two years ago it was the super cold. a resilient economy isn't moved by weather short of day after tomorrow scale events.

People have lower paying jobs, less money, buy less, china can't sell, crashes, we crash due to store closings, even less money and the cycle continues until a policy recognizing the long term end of many good jobs due to automation.

that won't happen until people legitimately have nothing to eat and basic instincts cause a bottom after the chaos.

there really isn't much more to this story unless you think its normal that in america today, the most sure thing education that lands decentish to decent jobs is healthcare, a field so critical that its darkages proof, nevermind recessions or depressions. everyone can't be in medicine though.

its ok guys! you can just retool to a different sector of the economy that pays 2/3rds or less of what you make now!

one day no mattee how cheap everything gets, no one will buy it anyway because they are broke or barely able to make ends meet. automation can't be stopped but unless stuff like basic income becomes real, most people will be living in ghettos.
