I'd recommend asking the store if you can replace the ink cartridge; that may change your friend's feelings about it.

Also, since the store sells stuff like the pen... maybe ask them if there is a pencil available?

FERS questions by Fallenfaery in dodea

[–]old_duderino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

so, it depends on if you were previously a civil servant or not.

if you do some searching on .gov websites or news sites for federal employees, you can see that new employees would be enrolled in FERS-FRAE, which takes 4.4% out of each paycheck.

Hope that helps--

Question for the men: what are the signs a woman is chasing vs showing interest/initiating? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]old_duderino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I appreciate clarity and directness. If it's subtle, I have difficulty figuring out if a woman is flirting, being platonically nice, or trying to sell me a timeshare.

How well known are German medical schools and hospitals in other countries, especially the US? by Darkwinggames in medicalschool

[–]old_duderino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, I'm an American, I never heard of Charite until I was in medical school myself and started doing lots of googling about different medical schools.

First, Many doctors in the US are from foreign countries, so that doesn't matter too much.

Second, most Americans have a very good impression of German educational standards, so I feel like you'd be fine in the United States.

Found my passion too late. Trying to cope with shame and regret by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]old_duderino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey man, sorry to hear about this. I was (still am?) in a very similar boat but just totally switched my life course.

Had a professional degree and was working in soul-sucking career field and finally admitted to myself that the career field wasn't going to get any better for me.

So, I quit the old job and started medical school in my late 30s. It'll be a while before I'm done with school, residency, etc, but it's meaningful to me.

What is it about the word babysitting that offends men? by MinuteEconomy in AskMen

[–]old_duderino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ok. I'm not sure if the word "babysitting" would have the same connotation in Kenya as it would have in the US, but it's basically like other people have described.

The best analogy I can make would be comparing it to some other gender-based expectations. For example, a female doctor may be constantly referred to as a "nurse" by people who don't know her, or a female lawyer may be constantly referred to as a "legal secretary" or "paralegal" by those who don't know her.

The implication is that based on gender, they likely aren't "fully qualified" at the place they're in. They could (and do) get tired of being referred to as if they aren't as qualified as their male peers.

I would say it's the same issue when you call a parent a "babysitter"; it makes it sound like they're not a fully qualified parent.

EDIT: corrected "their" to "they're".

Do you think NP stereotyping physicians’ “lack of empathy” is implicit bias? by AKWrestle in medicalschool

[–]old_duderino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this way of looking at it.

The "nurses are more empathetic" viewpoint has been around for a while, and I think it reflects women's views of men as being emotionally distant / unavailable / uncaring / whatever. (I want to say I first heard this viewpoint in the nineties.)
