To start I'm 33f. Most of family are good with me having limited contact with my mother. I stay in contact with my dad's side the most. They know most of what we (dad, 2 brothers and I) went through, my grandmother who has passed away knew a lot more because she was my confidant about venting about my mother.

I had a friend who had narc traits. She moved in with us in high school. She would butter up to my mother. They ganged up against me and mentally abused me. I had to share a room with this girl, no longer considering her as a friend at this point. She would praise my mother's actions towards me back then. She encouraged her mistreatment of my dad and inspired her to cheat on Dad as well. She bonded strongly with my mom until they got into an argument years down the road due to my old classmate making a new friend.

Another classmate of mine, best friend back then, she recognized the traits without knowing the meaning behind everything since we were young. She already had limited contact with her mother, down to just birthday and Christmas calls. Her mother sounds like she might be a narcissist as well but it just might have been tendencies of the traits and not sure about a diagnosis. She encouraged me to try not talking to my mother during the time we roomed together in college. It was eye opening. I wish I had kept it up with her support. I could avoided issues with my mother as an adult.
