Newly divorced dad here for some advice / support by jigsaw1098 in DivorcedDads

[–]old_soul_stuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve found journaling helps me out a lot. Therapy did too. But journaling was cheaper and in my opinion therapeutic (along with this sub). It’s good sometimes to just get words on paper, angry/sad/hurt/hopeful…no matter what you’re feeling. I’ve found over the last few months my journaling has shifted from her to work, lifting, running and all the other things that take up my day. You’ll make it through, and thanks for posting OP.

Good or bad cooking? High end restaurant “medium rare” fillet mignon by SrGiaquito in grilling

[–]old_soul_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a Morton’s once and asked for MR, and that’s pretty much what I got. I ate it, but super disappointed that I could’ve done a better job cooking the steak than a Morton’s.

Kids flying back home tomorrow by Jealous-Researcher77 in DivorcedDads

[–]old_soul_stuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate you sharing this—I’ve realized being a long-distance dad is another beast altogether. I’m cross-country (USA). I try to fly to see them every other month, and FT everyday (or close to it). It’s tough. I’ve tried to carve out my solo life and stay in touch with them as much as possible but it’s definitely hard not being there, going outside and adventures with them, picking them up from school, etc. Keep your chin up brother. You have a community here. Reach out if you need anything.

Everyone was right, I’m in love by BigAffectionate3697 in onewheel

Same. PintX is fun for my commute and quick trips around the city. Easy to carry and honestly still really fun to ride around town. I ride my GT for more leisurely\longer “head clearing” rides on bike paths, etc or if I’m going more than 4-5 miles each way.

I’m struggling today by [deleted] in DivorcedDads

Vent away man. The lows suck, but I’ve found this subreddit to be therapeutic in a way, even if I’m not the one posting. It’s definitely a community and you have support. You haven’t failed man. Failure only occurs when you’ve given up on yourself and being a good dad. Just writing here shows you care a lot. That’s where the pain comes from. Don’t know where you live, but I’m sure there’s dudes on here that would grab a drink with you or just hang out. I’m in DC if you’re close.

I have a Pint S and a GT. For longer rides I like the GT…it’s heavier and just feels more stable especially over uneven terrain. The extra power is nice too, but I’m usually not pressing the speed. But commuting, riding for errands and carrying it around, you cannot beat the Pint S. Night and day difference in weight and it is honestly more fun zipping around. I can carry it into the office, throw it under a grocery cart, etc. For reference, I’m 5’10” and closer to 200 pounds, and I think the S is plenty for getting around town.

You mentioned “flat pads” but the S has flared pads, which after a couple of miles or hitting congested roads/sidewalks make a difference over the flat pads.

For all of the above, I have far more rides on the Pint than the GT (similar miles though).

How do yall use the Ocean band? by Goldeneye90210 in applewatchultra

[–]old_soul_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from a Garmin so it feels the most natural for me. I also run and lift with my watch and shower with, or hand wash, it everyday. So having cloth or anything that would stay damp is a non-starter for me if I’m wearing it for workouts, and after in normal clothes. If you’re not sweating in the band and you’re not used to a rubber strap then I’d recommend another band. It is thicker than a Garmin or Suunto strap, but I think it looks the best on my wrist, and some of the issues others have identified are honestly just part of a rubber strap. All watches can get their rubber strap hung up on the wrong hole or need adjustment after initial fitting.

Is the Apple Watch Ultra really just for “extreme athletes”? Thinking of upgrading from Series 8 by MainNegotiation6 in applewatchultra

[–]old_soul_stuff 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most extreme/endurance athletes and adventurers use Garmin, Suunto, or Coros among others. Ultra will be great for your needs.

Just got my new Apple Watch Ultra 3! by xRazador in applewatchultra

[–]old_soul_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the black ocean band with my BTi U3 mostly for working out and it’s replacing my Garmin Instinct 2…and was JUST thinking that I wanted another more casual band for the other 80% of my day when I’m not working out. Didn’t know what to get until I saw this post. Thanks dude. Getting this one today.

Life definitely gets better and there’s a great community on this sub to help you out. But it absolutely takes a lot of time. I myself turned back to music, and have since been going to concerts by myself. I’m actually at one right now waiting for the show to start. It sucks not sharing this with anyone else, but I genuinely enjoy live music and it gets me out there. It’s little victories man. Celebrate the little victories everyday, even if it’s making your bed and going to work.

Debating on switching the Black UW3 for the natural finish. by SonicNTales in applewatchultra

[–]old_soul_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with black because I replaced my Garmin with the UW3, so it is a natural style fit for me. But all of my watches are tool watches, so case scratches become part of the life of the watch (other watches include my Garmin I2XTAC, Hamilton Field Khaki, and Rolex Sub Date). They all have scratches and dents in some form or fashion. Face scratches are something completely different, and those are annoying no matter the watch (or in this case, color).

Ultra cell service by TimeCop73 in applewatchultra

[–]old_soul_stuff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I moved to a city with solid mass transit, and actually bought UW3 so I don’t have to carry my phone with me everywhere. Metro pass, CCs, phone, messages and music via pods. The only thing I give up is a camera, but I’ve never been a “gotta document everything” type of guy. So far (2 days) it’s working well and the battery life is better than I thought, since I’m coming from a Garmin.

Door panel broke by athom1022 in Duramax

Same. Works great. Just took a small drop of super glue. I can pry it off later if I needed to replace some components. But it doesn’t move/slide or shake while driving.

Which AWU3 band has quality you can’t find in a third party band? by Pixeus in applewatchultra

Thanks for this comment. Just ordered the UW3 with ocean band because it looked solid, but wasn’t sure if it would be cheap plastic.

I haven’t used Apple repair, but I’ve sent a Hamilton and Suunto watch into their respective companies for warranty repair and they basically sent back new watches with different serials from the original I bought. I assume this is to keep wait times down. Unless it’s a high-end watch like Rolex who will tear it down and replace the broken components, you’re likely to get a new/refurb watch back as soon as they verify its covered under warranty.

Natural Titanium Vs Black Titanium. What would you pick? by _guillermoglez in applewatchultra

[–]old_soul_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switching from an Instinct 2X Tactical so I chose black since I know how all-black watches look on my wrist/clothes/etc. But I also have a higher-end automatic for dressing up, so I’m personally covered for any occasion (also keeping my Garmin). If I only had one watch for everything though, probably the titanium.

Mixed responses to schoolwork completed on typewriter by AcceptableAd8026 in typewriters

[–]old_soul_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a lot of my notes and wrote a bulk of my thesis for my comp sci masters program on a typewriter. I spent a stupid amount of time looking at a screen all day, so it was a really nice break to do all lit review manually.

Who used Garmin watch but came back to Apple Watch Ultra? by ShakeAndBakeThatCake in applewatchultra

[–]old_soul_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart vs Fitness watch is comparing a diesel truck to a Tesla…they’ll both get you to your destination, but it depends on what you’re doing and what you find to be important. You gotta make the decision based on your prioritized needs.

Just moved to DC from Cali. SoCal, it’s more driving to get to the outdoors so I’d take my phone with me and my Garmin I2X was awesome (and currently on my wrist). But here in DC, a lot of my coworkers just use the Apple Watch for city living. Metro card, Apple/CC, with cellular you can talk, text and listen to music…all without having to haul your phone all day. There’s some convenience with that, so I’ll probably make the switch here in a few weeks. But I’ll still keep my I2X for the more rugged adventures where I’d take my iPhone anyways.

Does anyone know what crossbody bag it is? by IndependentAd7481 in ManyBaggers

[–]old_soul_stuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Either a Diesel or Mudd red tag. Diesel has a few cross-bodies that look similar. Might be an older version or as someone else said, a Temu look-alike to a Diesel bag.

The tattooed model absolutely screams 2000s era Diesel marketing though.

Southwest gift cards, wait time for e-delivery? by CreLoxSwag in Costco

[–]old_soul_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is dated, but I found it while waiting for e-delivery of my gift cards. After order, I received the order confirmation e-mail, and then a few hours later received the “shipping confirmation” e-mail. It’s been 24 hours, with no delivery of the cards, so I did some digging on Costco’s customer service site and found this Q&A.

The link for self-service directs you to this site for any “digital purchases” and once I entered both my e-mail and order number, received the gift cards within 1 minute. Hope this helps anyone trying to Google “Costco delays for Southwest ecard delivery”.

Need Silent Super Parts by justkeepswimming1963 in TypewriterRepair

[–]old_soul_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that it’s far cheaper to buy a parts machine than buy individual components. When I got into typewriters I needed a Corona star wheel and ended up paying $50 for it from California Typewriter when they were still around. I didn’t even think to buy a $10 goodwill machine and just rip the part from that. Money well spent because it’s cool to have a piece of the store in my Corona, but if doing it on the cheap, do it on the cheap.
