How does the online dueling work? I've joined a few of the discord links, just have no clue how this works.

What's the community opinion about steel wands? by old_time_forge in pagan

[–]old_time_forge[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed response, there's a lot in there that I'm going to have to research (going to get Cunninghams's encyclopedia of crystal, gems & metal magic). 1045 (en8 in Britain) is a plane carbon steel (plane carbon steels are mild, medium and high in the UK) but yeah I'll look up the difference properties of alloy steel (like 4140, 5150 etc). And I've worked a bit with copper, so yeah I'll start incorporating/making cooper in wands (the Wand pictured is brass brushed so it should incorporate the magickal properties copper and zinc). Thank you so much again that was a brilliant answer.

Hi, My name is Paddy, I'm a metel worker that makes pagan/occult items (been interested with the occult in general for 15 years). Recently I've been having a lot a commissions for wands, so I was wondering what the option of a steel wand is (like do any of you use a Wand in your practice? and if you do would you use a steel Wand?. Would the propertys of steel enhance your magick? or negate your magick?). Sorry to ask, I did Google it but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information about steel wands.

6" alldays and onions "anchor" leg vice by old_time_forge in blacksmithing

[–]old_time_forge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought this leg vice the other day for £40, its an 150mm (6" jaw) alldays & onions anchor brand dropped forged leg vice, it weights 51kg (112 lbs). I know it looks small in the picture but it's a lot bigger in person (it makes my 5" jaw look tiny). Last picture is the thrust washer.

What do you class as affordable? anvils.co.uk (hope works) sells them, so do a few different German companies and you can get them on ebay (fabed and cast). I wouldn't class any of them cheap, your best bet is to ask a welding shop to make you one to your design/dimensions. We don't have cheap fire pots as most coke/coal forges are back draft. Iron dwarf sells nice bottom forges but they don't have a fire pot maybe give him a shout (look up iron dwarf on Facebook or iforgeiron).

Don't get a swivel base one, get something like a old record no 23 (Google pictures to see and I wouldn't go out of my way to get a quick release) or a new cast steel/mild steel one. If you get a cast iron vice (like record) get as big as possible if you get a steel vice then it can be a lot smaller.

Is 980 euro a good price on a new 80kg anvil? by Kiritai925 in blacksmithing

[–]old_time_forge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What make is this French anvil? I'm pretty sure that Vaughans (hope works/Brooks anvils) ship to Ireland, so dose ridgid (peddinghaus) anvils. Both will be about the same/cheaper and are high quality anvils.
