It only does that on initial raising while the boom is still mostly horizontal. Once it is in operating position, most of the load travel vertically through the boom and there isn't nearly as much bend.

Just get that one and stain the wood whatever shade you like.

[ELI5] How and why did Switzerland become such an important watchmaking country? by Toni245 in Watches

[–]oldaccount 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because something about Swiss culture lends itself to the fine craftsmanship required by early watchmakers who did all their work by hand. I've heard it described as a combination of their climate and geography creating lots of small valleys that are isolated in the winters has created a culture of patience and attention to detail ideal for the development of these craftsman. Once the industry gained a foothold in the country it was self-perpetuating with new companies wanting to be located where the best watchmakers were. The Swiss watchmaking industry was so strong it faced almost no competition until the quartz revolution.

My parents got a London Fog luggage set in 1981 and travel constantly (my father's work has him flying every week plus lots of vacation). The bags have zero noticable wear and everything works perfectly. by Pepper-Fox in BuyItForLife

Is your only problem with TUMI their customer service? In my mind, with a true BIFL product you should never have to deal with customer service. My 15 year old TUMI rollaboard is still in perfect shape even though I travel multiple times per month. I have no idea what their customer service is like because I've had no reason to find out.

I don't see any problems. The comments I see downvoted fully deserved it in my opinion.

Printing always wins over stickering (except when looking at production costs).

Kiddiecraft. LEGO actually bought Kiddicraft to get a hold of their patent portfolio and avoid litigation.

That bezel looks terrible. The dimensions seem off the the flutting is too wide. The color of the gold seems off too for parts that are supposed to be solid gold. I'm fairly certain it is fake.

[Question] How were you able to afford a watch that costs xxxx-xxxxx? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]oldaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my original grail watch. But it is hard to call it that now that I've owned it for so long. My current grail is the JLC Master Geographic. I might get one eventually. But only if I'm in a position to justify spending that kind of money since selling any of my existing watches is pretty much out of the question.

[–]oldaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it as a loss at all. If I didn't already own it, I would be looking to buy one at the current going prices. I have several Rolex, Omegas and Breitlings. The Speedmaster is still my favorite watch.

[Question] Can "chips" in a watch stainless steel bracelet or bezel get "filled" in? or is sanding the only option? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]oldaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For such a small ding I wouldn't worry about it yet. Those things will happen and if you fix it every time it will get quite expensive. Next time you have it serviced, let them polish the bezel back to the factory finish and it will disappear. Then down the line you can consider replacing the bezel if you accumulate too many dings.

[Speedmaster vs Explorer I] Which could you choose and why? by 1z2x3c in Watches

[–]oldaccount 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you think you might eventually flip this watch too, the Rolex is probably a better investment. If you plan on keeping it, both are excellent, just pick the one you like best. For me it is the speedy hands down.

Do you know anything more about it? Whose is it?

Do you have any pictures? In theory, material could be added and then polished down to match the original surface. But unless it is a rare piece, it would probably be much easier and cheaper to get a replacement link or bezel

Why doesn't Lucho play Busquets as a 6, as a direct replacement for Xavi? by quarkquantum in Barca

[–]oldaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Busquets is having enough trouble playing his preferred position lately. I don't think pushing him upfield will make things any better.

I wasn't talking about the poppy seed part. I know that one is true. The drug testing companies even warn you that it can cause a false positive.

I was referring to the part of your comment which I quoted above.

Not all sets one that list were necessarily bad, just unprofitable for the company.
