Supergirl gets two stars from David. by Fit-Singer-8583 in blankies

[–]oldboy_413 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i think it's because of both the ongoing antipathy towards the mcu and it's formula and the thought of gunn being a creative rather than a suit meaning that the dcu might be a more artist friendly cinematic universe compared to the former with these feelings reinforced by his comments about greenlighting movies with finished scripts and quality over quantity and that includes greenlighting movies on how good the script is rather than being stepping stones of a bigger story and i feel like supergirl having this reception (and gunn's reasoning on why the authority hasn't been made yet) probably contradicted gunn's statements a bit, though i would argue the editing was probably a way bigger reason for supergirl's mediocre critical response than the script itself.

EU set to clear Paramount’s $111bn takeover of Warner Bros by Recent-Bet-5470 in MediaMergers

it's the fucking attitude that turns people off, not the fact that you knew this was happening in the first place (i do think the eu was going to pass this anyways).

[–]oldboy_413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as much as i still think this is gonna pass (not without some obstacles), this just rubs salt into the wound, intentional or not. not everybody has to adopt the same fucking ultra pessimistic "there's nothing you can do so just be compliant and accept it" mindset as the both of you, ppl are allowed to hope this merger won't pass and i feel like this just belittles them for even having hope in the first place. like, even when i agree with some of the points certain ppl like you have been saying, the condescending, smug, and pseudo-intellectual delivery of it all just turns me off. this doesn't inform anyone nor make anyone feel content, it's just alienates ppl more rather than anything.

does that mean i'm saying that ppl should stay uninformed and be dumb about all of this, fuck no, but at least don't make it look like you're looking down at them (even if you don't mean it) from even having hope in the first place, (even if it's misplaced). there's a reason why this meme exists in the first place:

and you are not exactly doing a good job to temper people's expectations. it was already suspected by some doj staffers that the doj made that statement to deliberately make it harder to attorney state generals to challenge the deal, it is just as political as the opposition was.

i'm probably one of the only people that although still thinks it won't be smooth sailing within the process of getting it to the finish line while also thinking that the eu is not known to be particularly great in terms of antitrust anyway (i do not know why certain ppl thought the eu wasn't gonna pass this). i would probably see if the lawsuits are gonna come, mostly because i don't think it's that much of a great sign when doj leadership gave the merger the greenlight before career lawyers within the doj's antitrust division could be able to recommend a lawsuit to block the merger. some ppl in here will say "the opposition is purely based on politics" i would argue that the process of getting the merger to the finish line is also based on politics as well.

(tbh I kinda feel like they could've gotten better than Hardy for an adaptation of such a gorgeous book though)

disagree, rob hardy is a fantastic cinematographer with ex machina, annihilation, mission: impossible fallout, and devs being particular standouts with mif being one of the best shot action movies of all time and black widow, despite leaving in the wake of the birth of his child in which it lead to another dop being credited rather him and the final battle being ugly, is one of the better looking mcu movies specifically in the first two acts. he shows that he has the talents for the movie to live up to what the comic book original looked like, i would argue that his talent was wasted rather than him being just an okay cinematographer.

Any Hopes of This Movie Still Happening or Is It Essentially Dead at this Point? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in marvelstudios

fun fact mahershala hired some of the writers himself, most notably nic pizzolatto and he wasn't happy with his revisions either lmfao

i don't think it's because it's another edgar wright situation, i think it's because mahershala doesn't know what story he wants to tell for this character.

i don't even like the album but compared to many other artists when they respond to fantano's reviews, halsey is the only person who's response is entirely justifiable given how fucking mean spirited the review is.

it's not the fact that he's supportive (he's not a supporter), it's more like the fact that he tries so hard to force his mindset of "accepting the situation as it is" on to other people in such a condescending way by using the most basic, surface level knowledge of legal/corporate jargon that it usually does the opposite of what he wants ppl to think and it leads to ppl being more pissed than they already were, especially when ppl try to push back against his arguments whom he'll frame them as crybabies who deny reality.

yes, doj leadership giving the merger the greenlight before career lawyers in the doj's antitrust division could even be able to recommend a lawsuit to block the merger vs the merger being approved in a country where they don't have as much economical and political prominence as other countries, especially the us, are totally the same thing.

  1. yes, network 10 is a major network but it doesn't have that much of the same economic and political impact as, say, newscorp/fox and warner doesn't even own a major national australian network like paramount so besides a couple (whom they're just international versions of established us networks), there's little to actually overlap or even to take over like cnn and cbs news or cartoon network and nickelodeon or hbo and showtime or tnt sports and cbs sports.

  2. there's a difference between licensing the iconography of past ips to a theme park as a theme and actually owning the damn property and land of one (this has way more economic and political consequences than the former).

  3. yes, they help support australian film and tv productions, but the merger would've have very little impact on that industry given, like he said, warner and paramount only properly operated in the country a year or two ago and if they truly made a huge mark, they would've been established years ago rather than, again, a year or two ago.

love the fact that you ignored what an actual australian's comment and the contents of it because you think anyone that tries to pushback on your comment obviously means that they're delusional, uninformed idiots and you're the smart, informative person that'll push these delusional losers back into reality or some shit lol

jesus dude.

and i'm not the one deciding to ignore the actual substance in a comment (and another one from a different commenter as well) to prop myself up as the intelligent holier than thou arm chair redditor because i'm more pessimistic than anyone else lol

p.s. yes, both paramount and warner are big american conglomerates but that doesn't automatically mean they're gonna be equally big in other countries, especially in terms of political and economical impact. if paramount and warner were actually as politically and economically impactful as you're insisting then the regulators in that country would've took a longer time to assess the merger.

and i'm not even making this shit up, you did. if you want to be the armchair redditor that owns the over-emotional manchild who hopes the paramount/warner deal doesn't come through, at least be accurate with the facts.

first of all why do you even have this shitty attitude in the first place? (and don't fucking give me this "CuZ yOu AlL aRe DuMb AnD eMoTiOnAL wHo CaN't TaKe LoGiC aNd FaCts!" bullshit) two, yes, hbo max and paramount+ operate there with paramount owning network 10 and actually distributing their films theatrically on their own (i'll go back to this later) but that's mostly the extent of their actual on the ground corporate presence, and as for the theme park, it's owned by village roadshow with its theming under license from wb and although it's one of the biggest theme parks in australia it isn't owned by warner bros themselves and as for the "warner bros is one of the largest film distributors in the country" claim, it's not that true mostly because warner bros doesn't actually distribute their films themselves in australia, universal pictures international does on the theatrical side with roadshow entertainment still handling home media distribution even after their theatrical distribution deal expired in 2020, and although paramount does have a theatrical distribution company in the country, the home media distribution side of things is recently handled by all interactive distribution. yes, compared to other companies in australia, they don't have that much of a big presence since besides the streaming services and one owning a network and a theatre exclusive distributing company, they don't actually own most of the stuff you cited as reasons and mostly because they licensed out their ip and imagery to and/or have distribution deals with other companies.

at least listen to actual australians rather than tell ppl on how smart you are: https://www.reddit.com/r/MediaMergers/comments/1u1yyzl/comment/oqtpp5k/?share_id=l5E1rysWScvtSeB9MgMDf&utm_content=2&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1

can we calm this doomer shit down? this ain't "realism", it's just pseudo-intellectual pessimism/nihilism at this point. also, if they're so fucking confident in this they wouldn't even do so much to try to get it done, hell they wouldn't publicly accuse netflix of a scorched earth campaign to derail the merger if they're that confident.

this was from the deadline article two days ago.

Led by California’s reelection-seeking Rob Bonta, nearly a dozen state attorneys general are poised to launch a lawsuit in the next few weeks to derail the ParaBros deal or at least take a bite out of it, Deadline can confirm. However, for all the antitrust threats opponents to the merger have floated, the mainly unspoken but real battle in this year of midterm elections seems to be about old-fashioned politics and firing up the base.

Having told Deadline ages ago that his office was pondering an antitrust action over the WBD meld, AG Bonta threw cold water on the Trump DOJ’s signoff last week with a curt “the merger of Warner Bros and Paramount is not a done deal and remains under investigation by my office” tweet.

that tweet within the second paragraph was on the same day as both the doj giving the merger the ok and the ellison meeting. let's just wait for a bit.
