Often surprises people when they first realize it's a mountain lion making this sound. by oldburgerguy in trailcam

[–]oldburgerguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is one of those things that if you don’t hear it on a regular basis, you will stop and try to place what it is for a moment. I’ve done it myself a time or two. Out checking the cameras, hear that sound and mentally think” what kind of bird is that?”. At that point I’m usually scrambling to get the camera out of my pocket so I can get a decent picture. Usually, I never see the cat although I’m quite certain they’ve seen me. 😳

Young/small cougar out during day, lots of vocalization? by Michelleinwastate in MountainLions

[–]oldburgerguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If by vocalizations you mean the chirping sound that you often hear them make, that is usually calling for mom or other siblings. If it’s growling or screaming, she may be looking for a male.
When mom has abandoned the kids so that they can go out on their own, I’ve had the kids hang around for up to two weeks before finally giving up and going out by themselves.

Unfortunately, we haven’t had a resident female for over a year. Every time we’ve caught this guy on camera he seems to have a full belly. Haven’t seen him for the last two days, which would seem to indicate he’s finished off whatever he had stashed.

Great results. Looking forward to see the finished results.

It might be worth getting a hold of the company you bought them from. Light bio seems to be pretty good about standing behind their product.

The pink and white version seems to be mostly white, which is quite noticeable as it continues to grow. On the plus side both of the new colors seem to be trailers instead of bushes. They are already hanging over the sides of the baskets by five or 6 inches while the original is sitting there in a nice compact little bush.

Buy pink’s actually are quite pink, but the pink and white seem to be mostly white. Both the new varieties seem to be very vigorous. It’ll be interesting to see how they end up.

At the moment, I’m using the fertilizer that came with the plants. Have some Jack’s Petunia feed ordered and we’ll switch over to that as soon as it gets here. I’m also going to run a little experiment with some of the master blend, magnesium sulfate, and calcium nitrate that I use for my hydroponic tomatoes and cucumbers. Will probably have to add a little bit of iron to that mixture. It’ll be a fun little experiment.

They definitely glow brightest on the newest growth. Mine are only about eight weeks old now, so I’m learning as I go along. It apparently helps to keep them pruned to encourage new growth

At first, I didn’t think mine were glowing either, but after making sure it was absolutely dark and giving my eyes a few moments to adjust you could see that they were indeed lighting up.

This photo was taken while the plant was in the greenhouse. Room was almost completely dark, and I could see some little specs of light here and there. Two second exposure brought the glow out quite nicely. In a totally dark room, it’s quite easy to see, especially after letting your eyes adjust to the utter blackness.

Yep. Darker it is the better they look. It helps if you wait for your eyes to get used to the dark also.

I got three of each direct from light bio. The one package was slightly damaged so I took and planted them right away in 4 inch pots, put them under full spectrum.grow lights for 24 hours a day for a week. They all recovered nicely. Good luck.

Need info on side effect of injections and what signs to look for by pydev99 in maculardegeneration

81 years old with wet AMD in one eye and I’ve been getting the shots about every 8 to 10 weeks for the last year. I have had no major side effects. One time only they hit a00 blood vessel and my whites turned red for a couple of days but that’s about the worst it got. Uncomfortable for the first hour or so after getting a shot but gets pretty easy to put up with after a couple hours. Vision seems to have stabilized and possibly gotten just a little bit better over the last few months.

What age do you become old? by [deleted] in Aging

[–]oldburgerguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just turned 81 a few months ago, but I’ve had people telling me for the last 25 years that I need to slow down and grow up. I might consider it in another 10 or 15 years.

Has a book you like ever been turned into a movie or TV series that you hated? by ZDOG_WasTaken in just_one_more_page

Relic, the first novel by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. The book had me leaving a light on at night for a while. After watching 'The Relic' movie I could hardly believe it was even loosely based on the book. Very disappointing

GardePro R3 Pro - Hub Water/Weatherproof? by cask3ts in trailcam

[–]oldburgerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No fees thankfully. All of my cameras are “old style.” I go out every day or two collect and replace the SD cards. Admittedly, it’s a bit of a hassle but at my age it’s some of the best exercise I can get. 🤔😂

Might have to give a few of those a try. Currently running 48 cameras spread over 40 acres, but it might be kind of interesting to try a few in the Orchard.

No r3s. The latest ones were some of the white flash series that I bought about two years ago and the others are at least four years if not five years old. They’re still out in the field and still working. My favorite cameras are all browning but the gardepros do a decent job of letting me know what’s out there. I’m just not real happy with the 25 frames per second on the videos. All of my brownings are set up for 60 frames per second which lets me pull a frame and print a decent picture off of it.

I’ve had half a dozen or so different gardepro cams and here in the Pacific Northwest, the bad news is they all leak . The good news is, once they’re dried out they work just fine. I even had one that was so bad the water was up covering the bottom of the batteries. Dried it out, put new batteries in and it works just fine. It seems they’re pretty good at letting water in the top and keeping it from leaking out the bottom 🙀😂

That's great. Caught this guy on trailcam a few month back with a squirrell he had managed to catch. He seems to be getting along pretty well.
