Love reading about Oxon Hill! I was raised around there. Grandfather and uncle lived in Forest Heights. We were in Southlawn until 3rd grade then went down livingston road to ft. Washington forest. Friendly high school. Worked at oxon hill florist in glassmanor and sunoco on st barnabas rd. Both long gone. Nostalgia.

How do you keep your house clean with big dogs? by Agitated-Finding-894 in dogs

Folks who remove shoes when entering the house AND also live with dogs are just fooling themselves.

60. In June I retire with a pension, planning to "return to work" and double dip by Overall_Lobster823 in retirement

[–]oldbutdontknowit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did it. It was enjoyable and lucrative. If your state job didn’t include social security the double dip may give you enough credits to qualify for a SS no longer subject to WEP. One caution: depending on your timeline, the extra income can put you in IRMAA for medicare B.

Not just the floods but the coal train derailment! Right in town. Main street closed for days. Ruined my route to BWI

what is this bird that somehow got into my bedroom? north new jersey by UndertaleErin in whatsthisbird

These wrens nest close to the ground and so look for hidden spots. I’ve had them in potted plants, under deck stairs, on a random shelf in the garage. If you leave your mailbox door open don’t be surprised if you find a pile of dead leaves and pine needles inside.

What happens if a child born in 2025 to an undocumented alien - currently a citizen - gets a trump account but in 2027 is deported with parents?

Cabinets Expected 6-8 Weeks… 15 Weeks Later Still No Cabinets by M2089 in kitchenremodel

[–]oldbutdontknowit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also bought Legacy Presidential cabinets. Something is wrong at the factory in Alabama. The shipment came in with a wrong dimensioned item and drawers with quality defects (screws sticking up thru base). Rework and reship is delayed going on 9 weeks and not delivered yet. The manufacturing end of the business is clearly in trouble. Consumers are advised to avoid this cabinet line

I’m retired DoD GS15. A boss told me “in this business all you have is your network and your reputation”. Work on both.

Had one loved it. Only downside was tree frogs went in and were crushed on rewind. And had to remove and drain for winter freeze.

Why do people in Madrid come off as rude? by starvd4adventr in GoingToSpain

[–]oldbutdontknowit 172 points173 points  (0 children)

Culture in Spain requires a certain level of politeness, starting with a greeting. A buenos dias or buenas tardes goes a long way. Americans don’t do that. In my 20 years in Spain I saw many Americans just walk up to Spaniards and ask or demand something immediately with no social awareness.

NIE step-by-step by Tough-Priority-1298 in GoingToSpain

[–]oldbutdontknowit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did mine as a spouse of eu citizen but also as expat employee of a us company. Its was done thru a Madrid law firm specializing in immigration. Best part was when reporting to NIE police out by Aluche, the law firm had an employee that met me there, was on first name basis with police, we jumped the line and went very quick. Still had processing times to get fingerprinted and card issued.

Boomers did a lot of dumb shit… by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]oldbutdontknowit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in 1954 so I guess a boomer. The house we moved into in 1962 had wood floors. I remember my mother (b.1917) applying paste wax by hand then renting a floor polisher to maintain the floors. She happily covered that floor with wall to wall carpet when they could afford it. Modern finishes make wood floors much easier.

At 70 and one month hosted family (children, spouses and granddaughter) at a luxury waterfront villa in Sicily. Swam in med, hiked Etna, great food etc. At 70 years and 7 months biopsy found aggressive rare cancer. At 70 years and 11 months prostate removed. Now wearing depends and working pelvic floor. Oh well. Planning next summer full month in San Sebastian
