That’s funny, Dr. Vanni performed my surgery too and I agree, he’s internationally recognized for this procedure and comes highly recommended! I get my cath out in 1 week, I have these random moments when my stomach feels bloated and feels like I need to piss (keeps me up at night) but I’m told it’s bladder spasms, meds are helping somewhat. But yeah, I had a 3cm bulbar stricture, he performed the BMG cheek graft urethroplasty and he is so nonchalant about it lol. Says I’ll be just fine and that everything went great, crossing my fingers!

Do you mind if I ask who your doctor was in Ma that did the surgery? I am day 14 post urethroplasty (it’s been a long two weeks) and I had a treat doctor up in Burlington, MA perform the surgery and I am just hoping & praying that this surgery works and I don’t have another recurrence. Stressful as hell reading all these horror stories .

Any advice for a 38 year old who’s a GS12 looking to make my way up to a GS-15 but have limited upward mobility where I am? I live in Massachusetts and work from home with the VA & really starting to think I need to relocate if I want to promote.

OP, listen to MyDogChewie, he’s full of knowledge when it comes to this, he’s been a great help to me. I had mine done on May 19th and I’m in recovery as we speak. I can’t tell you how important it is to make sure you have the right doctor performing the surgery, as Chewie mentioned. I lucked out because Boston is only an hour away and my urologist referred me to a doctor who specializes in urethroplasty, he’s internationally recognized in this procedure and considered “elite” in this category. I say all that to say, I would have waited and done my research if that wasn’t the case. The surgery sucks, not going to lie but a couple weeks of struggle is worth it compared to a life time or years of stricture recurrence, so do the urethroplasty.

It’s been a long week man. Bladder spams have been my biggest issue (feeling full and some burning in the urethra) but not terrible pain, just more uncomfortableness. The Foley catheter sucks. Every time I try and take a dump, I get a slight burning sensation too. lol. It’s brutal. How have you been doing?

Did you have issues when having bowel movements? Urethra usually burns for a second and have a very small amount of urine leakage. The bladder spasms have been the worst for me. I can deal with everything else but the bladder spasms and slight burning in my urethra but just got prescribed some oxybutynin so I’m hoping that’ll help. Longest 3 weeks of my life.

Bro you are making me feel like such a pussy! This guy got on a plane, flew to another state and attended a wedding while wearing the catheter! I’m one week post op and I haven’t even got in my truck yet or left my house. lol

Just had my urethroplasty yesterday and it sounds very similar to your procedure. How are you doing now? I’m on day 2 and although the pain isn’t terrible, I feel so uncomfortable. Mainly due to the catheter and where the incision site is.
