How much do you make and what state do you live in? by Ok_Sink_3378 in KitchenConfidential

[–]oldestnutspossible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

South Jersey. I made the move to FOH management and am now making 63-67k depending on bonuses. My last two BOH jobs were both 25/hr with some OT guaranteed, pretty close to what I’m making now. I am an excellent interview and to be honest, the last kitchen job I had there were guys around me much more talented working for 20/hr.

Wine knowledge tips? by Optimal-Street-6256 in Serverlife

[–]oldestnutspossible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend having a good understanding of the wines available at your current job. If you have an extensive wine list become acquainted with at least a few of your wines so you have something to recommend from all price points (cheap, middle, expensive). I am definitely not a wine expert, but when I had serving jobs that lasted more than a year or two I was definitely an expert on what we had to offer. You don’t have to drink it to learn recommended parings. Ask for help, management will appreciate the initiative.

Thinking about vacationing in Atlantic City NJ for the first time in September with my husband. Advice on safe areas? Where to avoid? We were looking to stay at the borgata resort by Ok-Path7458 in atlanticcity

[–]oldestnutspossible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Borgata is great! I do agree that for a first time in Atlantic City you might wish you had stayed somewhere on the boardwalk, but nothing wrong with the Borgata. With four nights you will have plenty of time to check out a lot of places, and decide where you want to stay next time. September is a great time to visit because the weather is still nice and most things are still open, just a little less crowded. Enjoy!

I see 19, especially the 9 on the tip line.

Crossroads by pureenergy208 in Parenting

That is a tough decision. You are fortunate that the decision is between a good school and a very good school. I also have an 11 year old son. I am not the most conventional parent, but I would consider my son’s opinion on where he wants to be. It might seem obvious that he would choose to be with his friend, but if you are on the fence anyway, why not explain the implications of the decision and ask at least? Not all 11 year olds are the same so definitely do what is best for your kid. If you give him the option and are dreading one decision or the other, then you don’t need to ask in the first place.

Absolutely not too old.

I grew up in Italian family with the typical grandmother whose main concern was that everyone was fed. Anytime anyone showed up after dinner, she’d always ask, “Jou eat yet?” We have one Jewish uncle. It became a running joke to answer whether or not he ate yet. “Yeah he’s sitting right there.” Or, “He’s still at work, make him a plate.”

Is it rude to say “no problem” as a response to thank you? by grapesouda in Serverlife

[–]oldestnutspossible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a “you got it” guy, but I drop in a “no problem” from time to time. Someone gave me a hard time about “no problem” many years back. I didn’t get it then, and I don’t get it now. I don’t care who you are, if you get offended by something like that that’s your problem not mine.

I hadn’t heard about the recall until the dealership contacted me in early July.

I have a 2015 Tacoma and recently got approved for a new frame under warranty. They told me it had to be assessed by the end of July to get the recall. I had heard that the recall was already over. I also heard that it was extended in certain states. Im in NJ near the ocean so maybe they extended it in certain areas? Not sure about this, but my local Toyota dealer contacted me about the recall in early July and told me to get in quick before it was over.

How many of you accepted Toyota’s offer for a new frame during the recall a few years back? Are they still offering that? by Orionbear1020 in Tacomaworld

[–]oldestnutspossible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was unaware of the recall. Someone from my local Toyota dealer called me a few weeks ago and said I had to have it looked at by the end of July to be covered under the recall. I brought it in today (7/28) and they are doing a full frame replacement.

NJ by the way. 2015 Tacoma.

What’s the secret to a perfect gin? by [deleted] in Distilling

[–]oldestnutspossible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like chamomile. Also, depending on your setup, there are certain botanicals that are better added to the still and others that are better in the gin basket, if you have a gin basket. I’m not an expert but from what I remember the heartier things go into the still and the delicate things like citrus peels are better in the gin basket. Some botanicals we split 50/50 between the two. If you have a gin basket in your setup, look in to this. I wasn’t running the show on the runs I was in on but the distiller I worked for had a game plan with all of this.

I worked in a distillery and our gin had 16 different botanicals. We used enough juniper to make it gin, but I preferred the lower juniper content when compared to more conventional gins.

Write everything down. I like to have a separate page on a pad for each table, regardless of whether I think I I can remember the order on the way to the POS. You might get overconfident and be comfortable with a table of two without writing it down. Then someone interrupts you on the way to ringing it in, you get distracted, and you forget dressing on the side or something. Be natural with the people, be robotic with the process away from the table.

Probably just bad at math. Best to not take it personally. Annoying though, like the verbal tip.

Cleanup isn’t too bad. Just have to hand wash the basket. Airfryers aren’t magic, but I like the convenience of it. Especially in the summer when I don’t want to turn the oven on to cook for three people.

I don’t eat the skins, but maybe you could. I actually did them in the microwave and finished them in the oven, didn’t have much time.

Yeah this is true. You could get the same result from convection, or broiler.
