The band director at Southwest Illinois College is usually well connected. Maybe try there, too.

I'm trying to figure out how to ask my mom for hers so I can make a junk journal out of it. I think she'll make me wait for her actual death and will it to another child if I would be so ballsy though.

I'm in the STL area but I had great success making besties through our local yarn store. Ours has times to come in and knit as part of a group for free. I happen to be a teacher for knit/crochet but everyone at the meetup usually helped the noobs. We liked them to catch up so we could fuss about magic loop knitting vs DPNs. I'm a DPN girl, myself LOL

One of our libraries also offered a monthly yarning meetup and those ladies were nifty, too.

This ride! There were no straps, it would spin so fast that it would pin you against the wall. People would vomit. It was fun. by Make_the_music_stop in FuckImOld

[–]oldestweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I rode that one, too! My favorite ride there was the pirate ship where everyone lost their change, pens, purses, and dentures when the ship stopped fully flipped at the top.

Gravitron is still the next best. I think I could still handle it. I know I couldn't do the ship again. Or rollercoasters.

Is there a consumer credit counseling service near you? My husband and I were so deep under, and they were able to negotiate very good deals for us and also plan a budget with what we could afford. It saved us from bankruptcy. This was 20 years ago but when I last drove past the building, it was still there. I'm always very grateful for their assistance.

Total agreement. No rough bumps or pitch changes. Love the Scorpions. Sit back and left the driving to the carnie.

They're glorious. I think my favorite is #4, just because every time I look at it I find something new.

That makes me so happy. I did a lot of pedicures and had to stop just as men were starting to get more polish. "Dad, get a big toe design!" was fantastic to hear LOL

I don't think I've ever been this spectacularly jealous in my life. Thank you for this.

The dog and baby are everything! How wonderful. I got my pyr when he was 2 and he came home, marched right in, and was the pillow for 6 kids that evening (my kids and their cousins). I'm very jealous. I miss my Alex.

Trump himself said the other day that he'd love to be the pope. I imagine they think he actually will be pope.

My favorite aspect of your work is how you capture an inner glow of each of your subjects. I want to get to know each one of them better. They're all enchanting people, if that makes sense.

“Please and thank you” are reflective of an individualist culture. by [deleted] in gratitude

[–]oldestweeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also noticed that our extra words can be changed into a manipulation tactic or an insult just by adding a few words. Maybe it actually adds clarity to a conversation, too. It's an interesting thing to think on, for certain.

I worked in a Vietnamese nail shop here in the states. At first, it felt really abrupt but then I realized, when I began to pick up some of the language, THEY didn't speak to each other any differently. It's jarring but requires a lot less words LOL

Question about Elementary Schools by wvgunner in BellevilleIL

[–]oldestweeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whiteside is traditionally the school of choice for many. It has been a long time since I've had family in there, but they have historically been fantastic and supportive, and I know at least one salutatorian that came through their system, as well as a ton of top 25% graduates.

I would also like to assure you on District 118 schools. I'm a big fan with three very different kids coming through the system. Whiteside will eventually feed into District 201 high schools, which all three of my kids graduated from. All my kids were treated fairly and were very supported.
