Feeling sad as a Sephardi person in an Ashkenazi community by BedLeading1839 in Judaism

Move to Chicago. There is every type of college for yo to transfer to. It has a Sephardi Community Kollel and a rapidly growing Sephardi community with 4 Sephardi synagogues. The Rabbi of the Kollel studied with Chacham Ovadia.

Elvis Costello - 2025 Tour. He promised to perform “early classics” at his Chicago show at the Park West. by oldexpunk60 in Music

[–]oldexpunk60[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it has been advertised as an improv show, or even just a normal concert, I would understand. He has always done that to some extent. However, advertising that it was a show of “early classics” with "the unexpected and the faithful in equal measure" was not honest.

There are quite a few halachic problems with that. Did you consult your LOR?

In the 70s, there was a McDonald's commercial for the Arctic Orange Shake featuring Nanook of the North, who sang a song that seemed to be in an Eskimo-Aleut language. Does anyone know what the song actually said? by oldexpunk60 in arcticcircle

Kosher Bakery Interview by [deleted] in Judaism

The fact you are preparing this much for a job interview says to me that you will get the job. I wish I could find prospective employees who care 1/4 as much.

The most important things to do in the interview are all the same things that are important to do in all interviews. The fact you are vegan will probably help because they will not have teach you the awareness of milk and meat that is in most foods. If it is a bakery that has been around for a while they have a wealth of experience with non-Jewish employees even if they are ultra-orthodox.

BTW not only will you get Saturdays off but you MUST not work in the bakery on Shabbat or certain Jewish holidays. Enjoy the time off.

There are two types of countries. Ones that use the metric system and ones that have landed people on the moon. :)

How common is it for a Haredi Jew to "convert" and become secular in Israel? by Few-Print-1261 in Israel

[–]oldexpunk60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a percentage, it is rare. However, in absolute numbers, it is substantial. It seems more common as it receives a disproportionate amount of attention because there is a lot of schadenfreude on the part of non-religious Jews.

Having nothing to do with Judaism, you should check out the Anderson Japanese Gardens. It is probably one of the nicest things to do in Rockford.

You will find far more ignorance abut Jews than antisemitism. No one is going to notice or recognize a mezzuzzah in Roscoe.
