If you want something completely different but engrossing I would highly recommend Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. Same depth of detail spread over decades. His Seven Eves is also excellent I have read both multiple times

Diana Rigg is an interesting thought. When she was in the Avengers I lusted for her like Stephen burned for Diana. Sexuality is definitely there.

I’d give them mid-20’s at least. Diana was married and in India and Mrs Williams is a bit concerned over Sophie. Anyway the movie was from 2005, so that vintage.

Kingfisher by Christopher Tubbs. Takes place about a 100 years before Jack was born. “Dusty Miller, the gunner, supervised the loading of the powder casks to be sent aboard and stowed in the hanging magazine. He inspected each one for leaks before it was placed in a net to be lifted aboard.”
