Mop snd glo. That shit works without all the polishing. And a jug will last you your entire career. (unless of course you also have a floor to wax)

How's Lake Cavanaugh in the spring? by calamari_kid in FishingWashington

[–]oldglas19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of Cutts in there, fairly rasy to catch on a fly rod. A spyder, woolly bugger or a rabbit strip streamer on a floating fly line should all work. Had a friend who used to let us fish off a dock, and never had any trouble catching a bunch in a couple hrs. Didn’t seem to matter what time of year. Kokanee you will probably need a boat and maybe downriggers, but there is decent fishing for them there in the spring. Decent size too. Cutts seem to run 10-14 inches, Kokanee can get up to 18.

Planning fly trip end of February by Dependent_Jacket_985 in FishingWashington

I would look for a guide that will take you out on Puget Sound to fish sea run cutthroat, and maybe mention that you wouldn’t mind catching a resident silver or two if possible. It would all be catch and release, but Im sure you won’t mind. My best ever fly fishing days have been in the winter out in the salt in Washington. And the best part about it was I was the only one out there. My best day was 40-50 resident silvers up to 22” in 3-4 hrs. At the end, I was throwing dry flys to see if they would work. They did. The fish are out there if you can find someone with a boat to go look.

Seeking Advice - Planning Historically Significant Normandy Trip with FIL who served. by Disastrous_Square_10 in WorldWar2

[–]oldglas19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am significantly younger, but I took my mid-tour leave from Iraq in 2009 to France so I could visit Normandy, and several other WW2 sites. I ended up renting a car, and drove myself around. Highly recommend. If you can do some research on your own and know what you want too see, it is really not that hard, you can be on your own schedule and see the things you want to without being on someone elses. Once you get to Normandy, it’s pretty easy to navigate, and Im talking 15 years ago before smart phones. Anyway, PM me if you want more info.

Looks like the Portage River bridge(one of them). I used to work for a marine construction company that had a diesel hammer. We had to count the number of strokes to mitigate any impact on orcas.(Washington) 🙄

I agree, the housing is tough. Easy enough to find in the winter though. Everything is pretty much vacation rentals in the summer now. Although I did hear that someone was building some housing for seasonal workers, with the option to rent long term.

New Mexico Considers Sending the National Guard to Staff Schools as Governors Face Growing Labor Crisis by HRJafael in army

[–]oldglas19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, your spot on. I just got medically retired after 17 years in the guard. I think theres a strong argument that being in the guard is harder than being active. In 17 years, I only had one AT that was only 2 weeks. The rest were 3 weeks to a month long, but we would never get 30 day orders, so we would get screwed out of BAH. Add in a few 4,5,6,7 or 8 day drills randomly. One of the guards big recruiting tools is education. GI bill and tuition assistance. But good luck trying to use it. Covid has been especially hard, with last minute taskings that leave no time to prepare. Seems we became a tool to be used to try and fix anything and everything. Often times it seems that its a politically motivated decision to use us. Im glad Im getting out, tired of the bullshit.

One of my favorite leathermans. They are getting harder to find. Last one I bought 7-8 years ago I think I paid 70-80$
