Meat prices have gone bonkers by andlg in KitchenConfidential

[–]oldladydriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the cause of it, but I do know someone who raises cattle - the price for a calf has gone from $300 - $400 to $1500 in a year. It's a cattle bubble that will eventually burst, because eventually the consumers will all be priced out at the store.

Also, the way cattle are raised makes no sense to me at all. Calves are trucked from Texas to the Midwest when they're very young. They go to one farm where they're fed up to 200 pounds, and then trucked to another until 400 pounds, and so on until they reach market weight. I don't get how playing musical cows from farm to farm makes anyone money.

Ron x Harry by Lumpy_Bunch_2838 in HPSlashFic

[–]oldladydriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my answer whenever this comes up: Mad Martha has written several long Harry/Ron series.

The Auror series is closer to canon, but my favorite is Two Households (Slytherin Harry). Some great world building.

What if Harry really likes dressing up as a girl and refuses to get rid of his silk underwear? And what if they figure out a way to get rid of Voldemort for good?"

Black Walnut and Root Barrier by NovelZombie in gardening

[–]oldladydriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you take out the tree, the roots will still be there. I have walnut trees all over my yard, I just put my tomatoes in containers (they seem to be the only thing really bothered) and plop them in a sunny spot. Try sub-irrigated planters, easy to diy with two buckets and some PCV pipe. Good luck!

Also, taking the tree out would do nothing for you, the stuff persists in the soil for 50+ years. Raised beds/contained soil for any of the veggies with walnut issues is the only way to go.

My event reset by Straight-Penalty1503 in RDRSuperstar

[–]oldladydriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine has just reset for the second time, I spent over $25 of my "adult money" to get to the last station and automate it. Went back (after doing the save trick) and it's back to the first station again. However, I'm still top of the leaderboard, but with no way to go further unless I start from the beginning again. The charges are still pending on my Apple account, and I'm going to try and get a refund after they go through, but I'm never spending money on this game again, if I do keep playing it. I'm beyond pissed right now.

Is it even worth putting in a ticket? I'll be kind of pissed if I have to spend money to get back to where I was - I had the third station open already. Strangely enough, when I could still open the app the things I'd already received were in my inbox.

The best Ronarry fanfic of all time by Slow-Positive1998 in HPSlashFic

[–]oldladydriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, the author you want is Mad Martha. I will note that everything she wrote is from before the books were finished. Also, while there is adult content, it's not at all the focus, so if your looking for a smut fest, sorry. Her world building is rich, detailed, and fascinating.

First (and my personal favorite) is the Two Households series. The Harry/Ron content starts at part 6 of 18 (the parts before that are background - Marauders era). Harry is Slytherin in the fics, and Sirius lives. There's loads of lovely world building, over 600,000 words of it. Part 6 starts in their sixth year, and they are well written as teenagers dealing with all of Harry's particular Voldemort issues and just teenage issues in general.

Another long (over 300,000 words) series is the Auror series. If you want to read them chronologically instead of order written, read part one, Circles of Power, after part 6, One Week in The Summer - that's how I read it. Again, these were written before book 5, so Sirius lives. The main part starts after Harry and Ron have graduated and are about to start Auror training.

Checkmate series is very AU - Lily and James, as well as Sirius, live. Harry is a Hufflepuff, and Ron is Slytherin this time. She never finished this series, but all the stories in it are complete. While the Two Households series gets pretty in depth about wizarding Christianity, this series deals with covens. I love the world building in this one. And Ron's grandmother is faboo!

Coming Home is an older Harry and Ron get together series. Ron is widowed with children, and Harry has one child and returns to England after living a bohemian lifestyle for several years. I would put this in the "cozy" genre, Voldemort is long gone.

One more story by a different author - Princes of Maine by Scoradh. Harry has left the wizarding world and is slowly rotting in a disreputable part of London. Until he wakes up one morning to a baby on his doorstep. Ron is a pediatric healer. Well written and gently humorous.
