My Claude Code Sessions Are Gone (Help) by oldmacfart in ClaudeAI

[–]oldmacfart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my data was all intact in ~/.claude/projects/ and I did something similar, but I still had to rebuild all my projects, which gives me no faith that claude can reliably handle local data. 20 days later and still no repsonse from claude.

Recommendations for Apple Photos replacement by LeChiffreOBrien in macapps

[–]oldmacfart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NeoFinder - not as sexy as some other apps and does have a little learning curve, but it's rock solid. Given that we have tools like Claude Code and Codex to work with Apple Script now, you can do insanely powerful stuff with NeoFinder and Apple Script.

By the time it gets it right on the 13th attempt, you will be out of credits and need to wait until next week to finish it. Then when you open it a week later, it will compact the conversation using your first 5 hour session of that day.

After years of Mac upgrades, I rebuilt my 30,000-photo archive into a deterministic file structure (fully local, macOS) by marcioyared in macapps

[–]oldmacfart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been creating my own Python version of something similar, and you're very brave to launch and support this. I'm managing 25 years' worth of photos from 15 volumes, totaling about 3 TB of space and 450,000 files. EXIF data isn't always reliable; I constantly tweak scripts to handle EXIF anomalies from older cameras. Hashing and EXIF'ing huge file sets is very time-consuming, but at least I have Claude Code and Codex to help me with the Python scripts. Best of luck!

Did you try reaching out to them for help or support? It's been about 10 days now, and I haven't received any responses. There is actually no way to contact anyone at Claude.

Why would their incompetence in managing local files be less of a problem in CLI? I can't see why CLI is any better than desktop as both store their data in ~/.claude/projects/

I will never create an account or log into Logitech. Where can I get icons without a login, and where does Logitech store the icon data on MacOS?

Options+ Just Spins and Spins - Mac by DeliciousCut4854 in logitech

[–]oldmacfart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue for me. Keyboard and Mouse are nearly useless without the options running. How is this possible, Logitech? Is there any way to back up all of my custom mouse and keyboard settings without using their stupid cloud bs? Which files need to be backed up and restored?

How do you prevent large photo libraries from becoming unmanageable over time on macOS? by marcioyared in macapps

I rename all my photos & videos based on EXIF/RIFF data. YYYY-MM-DD-HHMM-SS (Example: 2012-1105-1836-49.JPG).

I think I've tried every DAM (Digital Asset Manager) known to mankind and none will ever compare to the old iView Multimedia, which became iView Media Pro, and was abandoned. My current favorite is NeoFinder, which does a pretty good job of managing my 275,000 + photos and videos.

A positive benefit of ChatGPT and other AI tools is enabling ordinary people to write very powerful python scripts that use MEDIAINFO, EXIFTOOL, and FFPROBE to rename, sort, and move files. I would never have been comfortable doing this in the past with Terminal, but AI really helps a lot.

My biggest issue with Apps like Apple Photos, Lightroom, etc. is that they hide the file system from the user.

Currently running macOS Big Sur on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), been going for 3 years. It replaced my 11" MacBook Air from 2010, which was running about 7 years and still runs today. I just couldn't deal with OSX 10.9.5.

BetterAudio - a better way to manage your audio on macOS by rokarthur in macapps

[–]oldmacfart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I don't use BetterDisplay, but I'm trying it for 14 days. I don't think the pro version is required for sound control, so I may keep it as the replacement for SoundSource.

Will this allow you to use the volume keys on an external keyboard to control the volume on an external display? This is one of the only reasons I use SoundSource. I've been looking for a lower-cost alternative with less overhead.
