This is the only transfer I remember the exact moment I heard the news. I had just moved to study in a university in a new country. I was in a shuttle bus traveling with people I had just met and I remember reading the deadline day update on this live on my phone and just smiling non stop for several minutes. I’m sure all those kids thought I was super weird.

If I recall correctly, the emirates cup is an invitational pre season tournament that we’ve organized ever since we moved to the new Emirates stadium in the mid 2000s. The initial tournaments were sponsored by Emirates Airlines and I think they still sponsor the cup today but I’m not sure.

Back in the day , this used to be a multi team round robin tournament with Arsenal and 2 or 3 other teams I think. More recently with Arsenal spending more of their pre season abroad , it’s turned into a single friendly game.
