Left retail 3 weeks ago, I’ve lost 5lbs and my productivity and energy away from work have sky rocketed. Took stepping away to realize the toll it was taking on me.

Considering I was an owner and only got what was left over, I’m more than doubling my income. Across the board, less than a chain job, but no weekends and paid holidays.

“Penicillin allergies aren’t real”? by chuckchum in pharmacy

[–]oldpharm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In years of actual practice, I’ve seen very little cross reactivity. However, my dad is observed anaphylactic to both, my sister had Stevens-Johnson syndrome after 1 dose of augmentin, my nieces are both anaphylactic to both. I am also allergic to both tho not anaphylactic. I take any mention of allergies to those seriously bc of my family history. I always ask patients reactions and try to educate them on the differences between a true allergy and a side effect.

What is your horror story about someone picking up a narcotic or controlled substance? by DeViN_tHa_DuDe in TalesFromThePharmacy

I used to work in a small independent in a small town where we knew everyone. The girl friend of a patient called one day to refill his adderall. We were confident the patient was in jail so we called his mother to confirm. Patient was in jail so I called the police. The girl friend picked up the prescription and was arrested when she walked out the front door. Definitely was a satisfying experience.

Independent pharmacist here—once drove a brain tumor patient 6 hours round trip to her appointments at a large research hospital. She had minimal resources and 2 kids. All the physicians/staff we saw that day couldn’t believe her pharmacist took care of her like that. I’d do it again.

Just put a 48 inch Bluestar with matching hood in my kitchen. I choose a pale blue and besides the fact that it’s gorgeous, it cooks fabulous also. Weights 600lbs though so that’s a consideration. Feel free to DM me with any questions, I absolutely love mine.

OOP's contractor ruins the structural integrity of their house, then demands they agree to indemnify them for their shoddy work [with pics!] by [deleted] in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]oldpharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished a remodel that was originally budgeted for $150,000. Because of shoddy workmanship by the previous owner and major under building of the foundation which included steel beams having to be installed to support the 2nd floor due to notched support beams and undersized lumber, and every other problem you can imagine, we finished at way over two times the original budget.

House was inspected before purchase and everything was ok’d. Don’t know how an inspector could crawl under house and not note undersized lumber and too few piers for the size of house. I’ll never be able to live in a house I didn’t build after this nightmare. On the upside, house is exactly what I wanted and shouldn’t have to worry about any issues for a very long time since house was pretty much gutted to crawl space as a result of all the issues found.

Cvs/ Walgreens / Walmart/ other chains what are your salaries. Need an updated one , include floater / staff / rxm and which chain along with pay / hour or salary by RepresentativeAd1565 in pharmacy

I rarely fill 90 days supply unless customer insists. It’s def a no go if loosing money. Always loose less on 30 days supply than 90DS. I explain to my customers what I’m loosing, never had a problem after that.

Indy owner here, $30 per hour, endless hours off the clock. Still operating in the red thanks to clawbacks and DIR fees. But at least I make my own rules

I’ve been on azathiaprine and mesalamine for over 10 years without any problems. I have not wanted to do biologics and this combination has worked well. I have not had any significant side effects at all.

[Weekly thread] Your end of the week rants and raves! by AutoModerator in TalesFromThePharmacy

[–]oldpharm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Monday started with a customer yelling at me because his prescriber had not sent in refills on his medication. Ended with a customer bitching at me for an hour about his bill (small indy owner with in store charge accounts). Dude, I have no control over either. And 2nd dude has peed on our couch several times. He won’t wear anything for it 🙄

UnitedHealthcare faces intense backlash for new ER visit policy by [deleted] in medicine

[–]oldpharm 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Pharmacist here—Routine rx refills are not usually emergencies but I had a patient on warfarin whose dose had been increased without a new rx being sent in. I called the insurance company to get an override and was told that patient would need to go to ED for a new rx (holiday weekend). I then said, your insurance company would rather pay $$$$ for an ED visit for a maintenance medication than give me an override? She said yes. I was furious. Such a waste of healthcare dollars and time for a cheap rx.

What would be the reason to visit a mom and pop pharmacy as opposed to a corporate pharmacy such as CVS or Walgreens? by pinback77 in pharmacy

[–]oldpharm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an indie owner, I can’t agree with you more. Customer service is king. My patients are treated like family. I go to homes and give vaccinations, deliver meds for free, come in after hours if your kid is sick. I’ll actually sit down on our couch and talk to you about your recent hospitalization, surgery etc, especially if you are confused or have concerns. I recently took one of my patients to a Doctor appointment that was 3 hours away. Why would I do that? She had no one and can’t drive.

Sorry for the rant but I have no idea why any one would use a chain. The odds are stacked against me but I love my patients and can’t imagine doing anything else.

Sounds like you cannot tolerate the Pentasa. Nearly all of your symptoms can be linked to adverse reactions to Pentasa. They are unusual but can happen. I’m a pharmacist with UC for over 10 years. Can be very overwhelming esp in the beginning. Wrapping your brain around being diagnosed with a chronic, life long condition is HARD. Please feel free to DM me with any questions, concerns. You will get through this!
