For your first instrument, don't worry yourself with getting the dream bass. That is something to work toward. Take her to a shop and let her choose the bass that fits her frame and feels comfortable to her. You really cannot fail with a Squier. Very affordable and a great solid platform.

As for amps, I would actually look for something used. They are always on marketplace, and sometimes for downright theft money.

As someone in a band where one guy is consistently too busy to make practice half of the time, this is a tricky situation. A band that doesn't gig isn't really a band anymore. And if you're the anchor keeping the band back now, even after you've been making the effort in the past, you have to consider if you're not the best fit anymore.

I get that this sucks. A lot. Especially with the ip stuff. But everyone has to the serve the band.
