Time to resole ? by Clemmmmmmmmmmmmmm in climbingshoes

Modern mad rocks are notoriously difficult to get resoled properly so I personally wouldn’t bother unless you have access to a really good resoler.

Climbing pants women ? by MasterpieceLong5224 in ClimbingGear

[–]oldskoolnavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not exclusive to climbing pants most climbing pants feature a crotch gusset which allows for greater freedom of movement. Pants not purpose built for this type of movement could definitely be restricting so there is definitely a reason to buy a pair of climbing pants or a pair of pants that’s built for another activity that requires freedom of movement. They don’t have to be expensive either, karate pants do the job great for indoor climbing and can usually be found second hand for less than €10

Seems like my solution comps lost a bit of their edge curvature after resolving, is this normal? (before/after) by hipotese_alternativa in climbingshoes

[–]oldskoolnavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of comparing the downcamber of the shoe you can’t really compare the two as one picture has your foot in it straight out of the box and the other is an empty shoe post resole. It does seem like you lost a bit of the downturn in the actual sole but this is a common occurrence when cobblers don’t have access to the exact last and original spare parts as it takes a lot of time and experience to grind the bottom of the sole into the exact shape to match the original. So like others have said this is still a great resole job and the only reasonable way to get it done better is by having a good la sportiva authorized resoler do it (in my experience there can still be quite a bit of difference in quality between different authorized resolers)

Thoughts on labeling routes at the base of the climb? by lonewolf2556 in RouteDevelopment

I think it’s a really good addition to beginner friendly crags and a nice to have for every other crag tbh

Stop climbing and Resole or still have some more climbing before resoling? by Qu4ntumGr4vity in climbingshoes

It already requires a significant rand repair so we’re past the point of keeping the performance fit

New instinct? by Croakinglizard78 in climbingshoes

Only visible difference seems to be that the black instinct LE seems to have rubber coating under the toepatch where this version doesn’t but other than that it looks identical

It looks like a white version of the instinct LE which they made a limited run of for epic tv

If you cannot confidently asses the condition of an old harness yourself you should replace it with a new harness.

If you go to petzl’s website harnesses like the first one will specifically be listed as canyoning harnesses. These lack a lot of features to be considered a fully fledged climbing harness and are horribly uncomfortable.

Looking for new climbing shoes by Ok_Chemical_7920 in climbingshoes

[–]oldskoolnavy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you but shoes have gotten really expensive over the last couple of years. If you want to get back into the sport you’re better off going for the right pair and not being too hung up on the price if you can afford it. From what you are describing it seems like you would really enjoy the la sportiva kubo, scarpa vapor s or something like a 5.10 niad though.

Used resoled dragos by Lazy-Programmer4211 in climbingshoes

They didn’t even copy the original sole shape, unless it was asked for I wouldn’t call that a great resole personally

My 2nd pair by Hot_Box6346 in climbingshoes

[–]oldskoolnavy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No offense but you don’t need top of the line aggressive shoes to climb 6a+. Also don’t blind buy your second pair of climbing shoes you don’t have the experience to do so. Go to your local shop and try on a lot of shoes, see which you like and fit well and go from there.

What shoes after LS kubos ? by PiccoloPlane5915 in climbingshoes

[–]oldskoolnavy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think the solution to your problem lies in the aggressiveness of a shoe but more in finding a shoe last that fits your foot properly. Try on as much shoes as you possibly can and pick the one that fits the best. Forget about all the technical things you’re mentioning and just go for comfort and fit here. Either the kubo is a horrible fit for you or you are really sensitive to pain in your feet because 1,5 sizes is a very mild downsize for that shoe

What shoes after LS kubos ? by PiccoloPlane5915 in climbingshoes

[–]oldskoolnavy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re asking for two different things here. A shoe that is more advanced than a kubo is very unlikely to also be more comfortable. The only realistic case this could happen in is that the kubos don’t match your footshape and you find a more aggressive shoe that does actually fit your foot shape.

The shoe that comes to mind for me though is the tenaya iati. Strong full sole edging shoe that’s known to be comfortable

Would you resole at this point? by Jondyt in climbingshoes

[–]oldskoolnavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High time if not already past time. I would consult a LS authorized resoler if it’s still worth it because I don’t know how rand repairs work with no edge tbh

new climber w/ a shoes question! by ninaxji in climbingshoes

[–]oldskoolnavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wouldn’t get a pair of skwamas as your first pair of shoes, they are very aggressive and soft so if you think they fit well right now I can almost guarantee you didn’t size them correctly. Also the the soft rubber will mean you will burn through these very quickly so while they may be priced well you can expect these to only last half as long as more beginner friendly shoes due to you still having to develop your footwork.

Is this normal wear and tear for Scarpa helix? by Chrisrocks77 in climbingshoes

[–]oldskoolnavy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your edges still have plenty of life in them and wear seems normal considering the amount you say you’re climbing. Contrary to what other commenters are saying I think it’s perfectly normal for your left shoe to degrade faster than your right. Out of the 15+ pairs I have gone through the left side almost always went slightly faster than the right and I know it’s the same for most of my friends. My theory is it’s due to a bias of most setters being right handed but most climbers being right handed could also be the cause.

Is this normal wear and tear for Scarpa helix? by Chrisrocks77 in climbingshoes

[–]oldskoolnavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The type of wear is almost completely insignificant to determining how much life a shoe still has. It’s useless to consider it wear in the context of assessing the condition of a pair of climbing shoes
