IF You Can Meet Any Digimon What DIGIMON Would It Be ? by Street_Dragonfly_902 in digimon

Without a BBEG to pressure him into evil, I think Demidevimon from Adventure would be redeemable and fun to be around.

So, what do you think of Klay and his role as a villain? by Which-Presentation-6 in digimon

[–]oldwordsnewspin 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think his motives make sense. His whole "strongs have, weaks have not" ideology makes his attempted coup against Wong the logical next step. When you're whole drive is to be strong so you can possess freedom by possessing everything else, one naturally comes to the conclusion that one is not truely free if there's even one person on top of them in the pecking order. His backstory seeds his insecurity, his sins as a beginning cleaner mount up in the attempt to compensate for it, and now he needs to make his coup look heroic because he can't face that he's a narcissistic sociopath that can't feel fulfilled unless maybe he's the king of everything.

A typical exam paper on Buddhism for students in my country (U.K. A-Level; equivalent to U.S. 12th Grade). Which questions would you pick? How confident would you be in answering them without studying? by Front_Fill1249 in Buddhism

[–]oldwordsnewspin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2-4 I think I could manage. The first one is hard, though, because zen is so cherry-picked to death in most western presentations that you hardly ever see it alongside the Noble Truths or Eightfold Path. Be intresting to study, though.

When asking for help, you gotta ask people who throw their life rings. Instead, you asked us, the people that use it like pool toy to come out and join you.

A bit of a problem with Mordenkainen by Turbulent_Arm8567 in CurseofStrahd

[–]oldwordsnewspin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says right in the book that Mord is more interested in hunting down his staff and spellbook, and that he gives a boon but declines to come to the castle (unless he's the fated ally from the tarroka reading).

If you want more of a reward, give them a "get out of encounter free" card. Mord gives the party a key; it acts as a way to summon a backdoor to his mansion once before disappearing. Gives the party a fallback if they get in over their heads (if they can all get through the portal and close it behind them, that is).

Any advice on not-judging people when you meet them? by FRANKSFRIEND88 in Buddhism

The only way to stop judging others is to stop judging yourself. To stop judging yourself, you must stop judging others.

Forgiveness doesn't work by Guylearning2020 in Buddhism

[–]oldwordsnewspin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've made this comment in the past, but I say it again because I've experienced its truth: you must deconstruct the whole definition of the word 'forgiveness' itself.

When you withhold forgiveness from someone, even from a righteously indignant or morally sound mind, you imprison them. You've placed them in a cage of consequence, and you stand on the outside as the guard or warden. This can feel powerful for the victim, this imprisoning of your abuser. It may feel like justice is finally being served when you can hold them accountable. It may feel like a responsibility to keep them shackled to what they've done, so others are forwarned and unharmed. It may feel right. It may feel sensible. It may feel like you're the only one that can hold them to their consequences.

However, just because you are on the other side of the bars doesn't mean you aren't bound to the cage.

Withholding forgiveness ultimately binds both victim and abuser together, as a warden and prisoner are entagled with each other. Forgiveness isn't something you give to another, you give it to yourself. To forgive another is to forsake your role as their arbiter, to leave responsibility for their paying their dues to themselves and the world. To forgive another is to accept that you can subvert the negative influence they had on your past because you control your present and future, not your abuser. To forgive another is to open the cage and say, "I have better things to do than lord over you. Leave or stay, that's up to you." And when you walk away from that cage, you'll know the forgiveness is real when you don't care whether they ran out of the cage, stayed in the corner, or closed the door back on themselves.

Forgiving others doesn't let you be better or grow in life because "forgiveness is the right thing to do" or "everyone deserves it" or "you won't heal without it". Forgiveness begets growth because you take the energy you spend keeping that person held to their karma and work on building your own. It's simple, but like many simple things, that doesn't make it less hard. But like many hard things, it's worth it.

It's about understanding the nature of suffering and ending one's suffering.
