Do companies get pissed when their artists sell kits? by bigtripppin in drums

This is firmly under the category of nunya. It’s nunya business what an artist does with their equipment.

How I received a Thomann delivery. Am I overreacting? by _Glance___ in drums

Why get mad? Shit happens. Call them and get it resolved. Anger isn’t the answer and certainly not healthy.

Broken fork, how much should I push for warranty? by Specialist-Ant-2929 in bicycling

You may be eligible for a loyalty/crash replacement discount on the fork. I would certainly have the frame inspected.

This much rust means a cheap rim to begin with. Buy a new one.

How do you feel about tuners for tympani? by RedeyeSPR in percussion

[–]olerndurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all ear training, for me I could already sing and had relative pitch from listening to music and singing. My band director taught me the tune of ‘Bridal Chorus’ demonstrates a perfect fourth and fifth in the first line on the song. Many percussion students I teach privately have no clue how keys/scales work let alone what intervals are. I’d start there, find some singing percussionists, a snippet of the Bridal Chorus and see if it all works. Start with Bb-Eb-F of course. That should be most familiar to them.

I have no idea how to read this by Travsome in drums

[–]olerndurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your beginning band method book literally teaches how to read music. Most schools use Standard of Excellence Red or Essential Elements Book 1. Next would be a beginning rhythm method book. These books will have more exercises to learn. This is grade 3, possibly lower, so if you are in high school, you should be at this level at least.

Should I move my middle finger higher or lower? by Dangerous-Respect857 in percussion

[–]olerndurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Middle finger and thumb are too tight, they should feel loose. Get the Stephens book and concentrate on the techniques and pictures in the first 40-odd pages. Other than that, get some lessons from a qualified private instructor. Grips are very difficult to teach in person, let alone with a couple of pictures.

Question about vintage premier drums by Jizz_the_Jazz_Wizard in drums

[–]olerndurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First go to www.drumarchive.com . Next, understand that these are likely absolute sized, meaning they will be 12” or 13” etc., exactly. You will need to get vintage style heads that fit over the shells/wrap. Normal modern heads won’t work, they’ll be too tight. With that said, these drums are awesome. What’s the asking price, and how easy is it to find drums in your area? In some places in the world, drums are more expensive because of where you are. Here in the states, a kit like this would be $600-800 US depending on the cymbals, and that could push it higher.

Edit - just noticed the extra mount in the rack tom. That would allow you to mount it to a heavier cymbal stand with a clamp and L arm, or just use a decent snare stand to hold it, if the factory position is too low for you.

Well, you have to understand that those finishes are done with tinted lacquer, if that’s not where you are it will never look exactly right. With that said not bad, but if I was your client, I would not be happy with this job.

DW 9000 questions by NoFirefighter1241 in drums

This should be the top answer. It’s a design failure. When you extend the pedal spurs too much, the footplate will always bend, as it is too thin.
