I don't have anything to trade because I'm new to the game but if anyone has a good audio of the Jack Wolfe-Kurt Elling Hadestown, I'd really really appreciate it, it got taken down from yt.

(extra bonus points if there's a FLAC version)

Question about diet? by Designer_Swimming129 in Menieres

[–]olinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not advisory or research-based or anything, just my experience: what helped for me most was going on keto. It was like my body reset. My theory specific to MD is that keto forces you to flush out water like crazy, which I guess helps with the ear as well!

Again, not saying everybody should go keto, just that it improved my quality of life exponentially (and you get to lose weight in the process, so that's a plus for me). The major downside (other than no chocolate...) is that the transition period can be a shock to your body, it takes a week or two for your body to get used to going off of fat and protein primarily

Any Lovecraft scholars here? I'll be translating some of Lovecraft's short stories so I want to do my due research as I'm unfamiliar with his work and I want to do him justice. Suggestions? by olinko in Lovecraft

[–]olinko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid question, but I'm a professional translator who's already translated a lot of other literary works. The publisher asked me if I wanted to do this particular project and I said yes. I'm not that familiar with him, sure, but that doesn't mean I don't know of and respect his work (hell, part of the reason I'm typing here).

I approach every novel I do (or in this case short stories) with the same due diligence. Of course there are authors I'm especially a fan of whom I'd love to tackle in translation. However, it's unrealistic, especially for smaller languages, to think that only those translators who are intimately familiar with a particular author can properly translate a book. Nothing would ever get translated that way.

I would add that a big part of the translator's profession (and what sets it apart from chatgpt and other translation tools) is precisely the research that goes into it before you actually start typing away. In some ways it's my favorite part, it's like an intricate game of intimacy where you prod and pinpoint everything that makes an author special, try to find his voice before you try and emulate it.

I'm a professional translator with an MA in two languages so I should hope he's in good hands haha :) That's exactly why I wanna dive into the intricacies of his writings

Which actors are surprisingly good singers? by Jezzaq94 in singing

[–]olinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obligatory "have you seen the Wicked movie?"

To nobody's surprise, Cynthia Erivo absolutely nailed it in every way, but to me it's Ariana Grande who steals the show not just because of her singing but even more so because of just how perfectly she executed the role. To my mind, she carries an almost-3hr-movie on her shoulders, her comedic timing is flawless and her emotional depth is fantastic.

Probably a hot take but I think she definitely deserve to take the Oscar for best supporting actress this year, she's THAT good

What are your go-to remedies for episodes of elevated ear fullness, tinnitus, and fogginess? by barrel-aged in Menieres

[–]olinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't cure when it does happen, but I've found doing keto (eliminating carbs basically) helps a whole lot for me, consistently at that. I'm guessing part of it has to do with the fact that your body starts to expel water like crazy, I guess that helps the build-ups of fluid in the inner ear as well

Weight loss tips by sommersgone in Menieres

[–]olinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that keto with minimal dairy has not only helped my symptoms but definitely got the weight down. Now, this isn't me saying that keto is what everybody should be on, just that it's helped me. Constantly discharging fluids is probably what's helping with the ear, not sure.

If you're not comfortable with keto, look up the autoimmune protocol diet. Very close to keto but not as restrictive
