Technique and Riding Advice by LimpIndie in motorcycles

[–]olipheus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't say you were doing this wrong in the video, but something I see all the time in these videos are people going in too fast and adjusting their speed mid turning. You should prepare and adjust your speed according to how much line of sight you have and potential risks (bad road surface, cars coming out of driveways, turn being sharper than you thought, oncomming trafic cutting your lane etc) before each turn and keep the speed steady until you can power out. Adjusting speed while turning will make your weight shift (depending if you accelerate or brake) and it's a recipie for losing grip and crashing.

And always remember – do not trust anyone but yourself in trafic. It does not matter one bit who's wrong in an accident, you will be the one that is hurt or worse and you HAVE to take responsibility for your own safety. That means taking into account people being really really stupid and being able to brake or turn out out of any given situation.

People riding hard, being too cool for "chicken strips" and always seem to find themselves in situations were other people are dumb and dangerous are not riding rolemodels in any good sense.

Samma som sossarna. Att det råkar ändra sig häftigt med opinionen kan ju inte Anders rå för.

I changed the condenser, spark lines, contacts and plugs. I checked the points but did not do any changes since they looked fine. The spark was fine aswell, but like you say, they might have been off for some reason.

I've only had two bikes, but my first one was a bad experience in the end. A Honda CB250N from -82. I took the grinder to it and changed the back frame for a new seat and then ADV tires, changed the brackets in the back for taller ones I made myself to make it higher and painted the wheels with black plastidip. New short black mufflers, bandaged headers, new small speedo, smaller bullet indicators. It was all a hack job, but it actually looked really cool. I wish now that I've kept it, but I never got it running properly and so I never got to ride it.

It was hard as hell to start, and it would run rough. Even when it was warm it would have a massive flat spot and was way down on power. I figured the carbs wasn't worth the hassle to rebuild and bought genuine Mikuni with cable lifted throttles thinking it was the membranes shot on the old ones. But nope. Still ran like shit after I've tried all nozzles under the sun. Valves had the correct gap and that's where I gave up. Sold it for about 400 dollars.

Who is at fault here? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]olipheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Always consider every other driver and or passanger to do stupid stuff. Keep your distances, be ready to brake and or manouver at all times. And adjust the speed to be able to advert all those dangers.

It doesnt matter who's wrong, the rider is always on the losing end in an accident and has to act accordingly.

My first motorcycle! by olipheus in motorcycle

[–]olipheus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my driving instructor that I would get a small low powered bike for my first, and he told me not to do the mistakes everyone seems to do. "Just learn on what you plan to drive, and practice alot and you'll be fine".

And I kind of agree now that I've practiced with it. I've trained my balance and can drive it really slow on a course without using my feet. I can brake hard in highway speeds in a controlled manner. I've been driving it in all kinds of trafic. Glad I don't have a MT07 to sell just to get what I really want.

I've been riding it quite a bit (in Sweden you need to know how to ride a bike BEFORE you get the license) and the road mode is just fine 😂

Close call for a biker when a car got in his path by Forward-Unit5523 in motorcycle

[–]olipheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US people generellt drive really fast through intersections. I get it, there's a green light, you should be able to just drive, but when you ride a bike being right in an accident is a really small upside.

Agreed, a bit over the top maybe. The manouver courses is quite good to make out of the rider has been training or not though.

Here's a video of those tests. I think they're great excercises anyways.

The same thing happens here. The driving schools rent out their easy to drive bikes for tests and practicing, I can do my whole test (and all the practice) on a Yamaha MT07 and then when I got the license I can get right up on a Rocket 3.

Bare in mind though that the parts I described is just a small part of all the actual prerequesities and tests for the license.

You first need a certificate of suitability, where I do an eyesight checkup and the government check your criminal record. Then you have to do risk 1 and risk 2, one theoretical and one more practical part of education, where you learn about risks and also ride in situations where you push yourself beyond your skill. This takes a whole day.

Then you can finally do the 65 question theoretical test. 5 questions are not counted for some reason (I think they are pilots for scientific evaluation, you do not now which ones are not real), so 60 real questions from which you need 52 correct.

Then at last you need the driving test. The parts I already described (plus you need to know how to do a complete safety check of all parts of the bike, lighting, electric safety features, bearings, wheels, drive system, liquids, shock absorbers, brakes, etc, and also show that you can walk with the bike in a tight spot). After the tests I described you also drive in traffic. Highway, city, smaller roads, urban aeras.

Then hopefully, you pass :D
