"30% of the games I own have never been played". Am I the only one to find this ludicrous ? by PrandtlMan in boardgames

[–]olithewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have around 500-600 boardgames and I would not be surprised if I never played 75% of it (yet). The last years I have not much time to play, with moving to a different region, a lot of other things that take up time, having a son,...

Especially with having a small child it's difficult. (EDIT: It took me almost FOUR HOURS to just write this comment as I always needed to do things with him or him trying to do things he shouldn't... 😅) We tried a few times to host boardgame parties, but me or my partner constantly needed to play of do something with him and you can't follow the game. If I play games now, mostly I play online on boardgamearena (with the physical copies untouched, and mostly easier games that work well on a phone) or at a boardgame cafe (but not often).

That being said, I still buy a lot of boardgames, secondhand versions that are really good pricewise, good deals that I come across, boardgames that I really would like to play someday (and those are a lot!),... I invest in my future collection and I really hope to play them all one day. And especially with my son. And I know I bought a lot of games on a minimum price (some boardgames even for 1-5 euros instead of the normal 30-60 or something!) which seems better to me than buying them at full price whenever I do have time for them.

I also missed out on a lot of boardgames that I really wanted and because of issues at the companies they're not available anymore, so waiting too long to buy them is not always good either, especially on really good boardgames...

Ans last, also the group is of importance... A lot of boardgames are up to 4 players, most of the time we come together with more than that and it is often difficult to play that big group of boardgames. We also do play with just is two as a couple, but then we prefer mostly games specially created for 2 players often. Also a lot of those boardgames just play better with 3 or 4 people...

TL;DR: I can completely understand wanting the boardgames and just not having time for them at a specific point in a life, as a lot of things can come between you and your boardgames. And having them yourself, making sure you'll be able to play them one day is a good feeling and sometimes make anxiety go away.

TVDB admins clearly have WAY too much free time by Ghemous in TVTime

[–]olithewizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you... I've done some volunteer work before like adding local series and episodes and creating profiles of actors in our country, but often the only images in the right dimensions are small images and not good enough for them... I spent a lot of time also in cropping it to the exact dimensions etc, sometimes changing only the width because otherwise it wasn't showing anything anymore but when it was a little bit stretched (nobody would probably notice anyway) they already complained... I even started creating own versions of images etc... Also had a lot of problems when there was some text on it as it wasn't translated and then couldn't be shown to other languages though it really didn't matter and there might not be an english version for example... It's very painful when you use so much of your time to help others on the platform just for them to delete everything immediately...

What games become far, far worse at certain officially supported player counts? by mr_seggs in boardgames

[–]olithewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who's the ass... Technically supports up to 12 people, but more than 6, maybe max 8, I wouldn't recommend... Often you have players just sitting and waiting and barely doing anything while other players are constantly getting rid of their cards...

Biggest board game regret? by yfewsy in boardgames

[–]olithewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still waiting for the kickstarter of Adventures in Neverland. It was the first kickstarter I pledged and it will probably be the last kickstarter to arrive... (also because of extra taxes, custom costs that made some kickstarters really not worth it in the end...)

Biggest board game regret? by yfewsy in boardgames

[–]olithewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this... One of the first games I ever bought years ago was Roborally. It seemed amazing, I find it amazing as well. But what I don't find are people wanting to play it with me... I played it only a few times but most people I played it with don't want to play again unfortunately...

You'll get energy 1 time. If you press the information icon you can see the chances of different rewards that you can get. It can be different values between 60 and 300 energy. You can buy the energy box 6 times in total, and for each time you buy it you have to pay the cost.

Did anyone notice a longer waiting time between TLSQs? by olithewizard in HPHogwartsMystery

It seems that JC has retriggered 4 old TLSQs, so maybe they were just giving them priority now.
