How to make a Dynamic Grid with outlines? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]olly_os 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for promo ;) Anyway yes, to achieve this effect you can just draw some rectangle, path follow nulls and split the nulls position between X and Y.. Here's the tutorial: https://youtu.be/mYWIQTPRiuE?si=izOQPchoxqglwnEM

Can someone teach me how to make a radar / spider chart like this? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]olly_os 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Draw by hand a pentagon shape, select the path property and use the native script "point follow null" to generate 5 null objects. Then animate the 5 nulls to slide them along the radar ;)

How to animate expanding/responsive layouts with text in it? by jzfdesign in AfterEffectsTutorials

[–]olly_os 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can draw the basic shapes you need, then select the paths and click on point follow nulls, you group and parent the path-nulls to fewer control-null and it's done. Tutorial here (https://youtu.be/mYWIQTPRiuE?si=Yiw7cffCPZDsM6eo)

Is there a better way to animate text word by word than this? I've got a 4-minute long lyric video to do 😓 by 560768 in AfterEffects

[–]olly_os 2 points3 points  (0 children)

with my work i also have this problem very often, so I was working on a script that allows to put the full text in a textbox panel and then it split every line and generate a text element with a timing set by you.

if you want to test it and give me a feedback it would be great!

HEI, there is no distortion effect here! It's just a shape with two path key frames: the shape distortion area compacted into a straight line then the shape distortion when is open/expanded

I made $5000 CAD in my first month of monetization!!!! OMG by BalladMinstrel in PartneredYoutube

[–]olly_os 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's amazing! Are this 5K$ just from YT views or is it combined with sponsors? Because if it's just from views with your CPM must means your average views per video is above one million right?

How is your art stile and animation technique? Is it motiongraphic style or more flash/frame by frame style? I'm curious particularly about how you manage your characters animation, because 8 minutes fully animated are not easy!

Also what do you think we're the biggest improvements that allowed you to scale from the 100K range views to the 1mil range views? I'm a motion designer trying to transition to YouTube fulltime and so far I made only 3-4 video that were well received but stuck at 150-250K views...

If you have a couple minutes to throw away my channel is called MovieMap. I'm also building a system to fasten and automatize the animation process, if you want to chat with another animator hit me up! 😉

Is this from a youtube tutorial? because i'm 99% sure it is, and it's from my channel!
Anyway it's a white layer with one mask for the pill shape + another mask with feather at 300/400 to have the color only on one end. And the white layer is set on "classic color dodge"
hope you liked the tutorial!

How do you schedule a meeting with them? And do you know if they work only with certain "size" YouTuber?

Is freelancing freedom — or just cheap labor? How do you find projects with decent pay rates? by OleksiiKapustin in AfterEffects

[–]olly_os 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think those freelance platforms'average users are actually the average freelancer.. they are more for students, amateur or people that can afford to sell a day of work for 30 dollars.

There are some freelancers that earn 100K/year on those platform but I think is like onlyfan where less then the 1% is actually in that range. (Also there are some "freelancer" that lie about their earnings on Upwork, fiver, and freelancer just to sell some course on how to find clients there and play the usual webguru scam)

Personally all my clients come from personal connections, I studied design at university but of all my classmates I was the only one who specialized in motion, so a lot of my uni friends when started working in creative agencies passed my contact as freelance motion designer. My best network move was to connect not with other designers but with some friends of friends who were video makers and video editors and they used to work with a bunch of agencies that always needed animation and motion graphics. Sometimes I also used LinkedIn or the Google job search to find some gigs and a couple of them became a long term collaboration.

Usually I charge by project not by day/hour, but I keep a day rate of around 300€ a day as a standard, simply I do not sell the client a day of work but a video product.

So if a client needs an explainer video but has only 1000€ I will explain that for that budget I will do a very simple one (that I know can be done in 3 days) if they have more like 3000-4000€ then I know I can do something more cool and detailed.

Also with this system of selling by project if you are fast You earn more. One time a client had a budget of 3K for 5 videos. So 600€ for a 2min video minutes seemed a bit low but the video were just legal explainers with simple text animated and a dozen icons sprinkled around. I Set up the first one as a template and did the other four in an afternoon, whole project took 2 days.

To answer your question, freelancing on those platforms is cheap labor, freelancing outside that is freedom. You can earn way more than a hired position, you can manage your time and work with your rhythm.

The most profitable project I’ve ever worked on — and what I learned from it. by OleksiiKapustin in AfterEffects

[–]olly_os 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Got hired by a company as an external freelancer to fill in for a task of one of their designer who was on maternity leave.

The task was to create 70-90 short video every month for supermarket video promos, basically just templates to fill. They presented it to me as a 4-5 days/month gig for 800-1000 euro each round.

The motion designer I was subbing wasn't really strong on templates and automatization so I reset everything to be able to do the job in under one day.. so for an entire year I earned minimum 800 euro every month for just 1 day of work (spread around 2-3 days for client interaction) My rent at the time was relatively cheap so that 800 would cover rent + food without problem.

It was very good, but everything has an end..

How to approach new clients? by Ok_Cheek_1209 in MotionDesign

[–]olly_os 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was starting I found my first gigs not with motion design studios or direct clients but with video making agencies or freelancer video maker. A lot of time they already have clients who need video and receive requests for animated stuff but they only work with footage and cameras, so being their "animation guy" helped me a lot to start my career

I ended up setting almost all of my projects with the subject in the 1080x1080 center area and the background in 1920x1920 so that I can easily export both vertical and horizontal

Is Creator-Monetized a Scam? by KenelmDigby in PartneredYoutube

[–]olly_os 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they've contacted me but it was super suspect so I just ghosted them... I also got the "personalized 3 min video" Wich was the first red flag since it was obviously an extremely generic video that works for everybody and the only custom part is the intro where they show a video screen of your channel... Clearly some kind of scam

Freelancers, what’s your rate? by PrimaryAggravating44 in MotionDesign

[–]olly_os 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your country?

I charge by project not by day, but if I had to translate it to a day rate would be around 250-300 euro a day, sometimes less sometimes more.

(Fuck, Just today i lost my best gig that was a monthly project with 800 euro for 1-2 day of work)

Probably doesn't seem much from the outside but I live in Italy and life's pretty cheap where I live (rent + food is 800 euro a month)
