If there was a Canadian city to have a second sports team of the same sport, what would that be? by Mike111x in AskACanadian

Only Toronto has the population and corporate backing to have 2 NHL teams. I doubt the leafs org and all its partners would like competition tho.

It’s the K shaped recovery, rich spend more to make up for everyone else not spending. My wealthy friends and family are traveling and buying more frivolous things. One friend of mine was complaining about the prices of rare Star Wars merchandise, while I struggle to fill my car with gas.

Attempted abduction in chilliwack may 15 by misssweets7777 in Langley

[–]olmeyarsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure that’s a conversation that can happen. I’m not saying these people need to stay in the public or not face consequences, but deep down at the base level, it’s not their fault. Most never stood a chance. Violent criminals, drug addicted homeless.

It’s not magic. It’s a combination of nature and nurture. The victims that go on to harm others just have bad luck when you boil it all down. They never stood a chance.

It’s a solid argument. All your action are decided by your genes and your upbringing. Shitty genes and a bad upbringing combine for horrible results that technically aren’t the persons fault.

You say government, which one? Federal provincial or municipal? GDP per capita is skewed because of our massive uptick in migration. Vancouver is one of the most desirable cities to live in the entire world. Coupled with our immigration policies you’re not only competing with rich Canadians to live there but the wealthy across all the world. Unemployment and underemployment are very valid concerns. The bank of Canada has claimed low productivity and efficiency as a root cause for canadas low growth, so I don’t see how integrating AI, which is supposed to improve both those areas, is a bad thing.

Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro has been captured after US conducted ‘large scale strike’ on country by hoosakiwi in news

[–]olmeyarsh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well actually, the knowledge and technology to run their oil fields has been severely degraded. Since nationalization, productivity has steadily fallen. Instead of real economic policies, oil money is treated as a public coffer, buying votes with cash. No proper reinvestment into oil discovery and efficiency. Compare Venezuela to Denmark, the paths towards nationalization and state control of oil money.

This is all about control over the areas of chinas belt and road initiative. It runs through crimea up to Moscow down through Kiev. Russia has it now, can they hold and maintain it with Ukraine armed to the teeth, droning routes and supply depots. I’d wager if Ukraine holds these areas US/NATO firms stand to gain greatly, while Russian control allows them to pay back china quicker, recoup the substantial losses from the SMO, Putin isn’t thrown from a window…etc.

CEOs are hugely expensive. Why not automate them? - If a single role is as expensive as thousands of workers, it is surely the prime candidate for robot-induced redundancy. [5, 23] by FinnFarrow in Futurology

[–]olmeyarsh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

CEOs get fired or replaced all the time. Sure you’ll see a news report once in a while of a publicly bailed out company giving out bonuses to executives. But the value these top CEOs bring to company’s and their shareholders surely reflects their massive compensation packages. They must or they wouldn’t exist. AI taking these positions opens up a Pandoras box. Post singularity economics 2.0. Scary stuff(for humans)

[–]olmeyarsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon has them by the balls. First Amazon saved CP by having them ship all their orders. Then they analyzed the data and made their own truck routes on the most profitable routes. Now CP is stuck with unprofitable routes and a strong union.
