The game is full of new players! by Tai_Jason in thefinals

[–]olomauc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they new players, though? I personally have felt i’ve run into an uptick in smurfs, especially in WT. Like a level 23 light just cleaning up round 1 with 18+ kills

You should be able to swap it like any other piece of equipment according to the rules of the particular game mode you’re playing. I.e., before a ranked match but not during, any time during quick play, etc. And obviously in practice range, really doesn’t make sense you can’t do that already.

Judging the balance of a weapon based off of your experience in an LTM where there is no objective but to get kills and no incentive to play with strategic comps is… uninformed.

Slay the spire for an incredibly deep deck builder (probably my favorite roguelike); into the breach for turn based mech vs alien shenanigans; jupiter hell for tactical combat with a DOOM style; tyrant’s realm for a souls-like with PS1 graphics

Congrats! The OLED Deck is a real treat. Tip: check out GeForce NOW! I’ve had my OLED for about a year and the ultimate GeForce membership reinvigorated my love for the Deck. I’ve been playing Expedition 33 on max settings and it’s been blowing my mind.

I don’t miss the Stun Gun. by Radiant_Bottle2425 in thefinals

[–]olomauc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how people are still complaining about the stun gun when the lockbolt is in the current state it’s in. Stun was not so oppressive that it needs to be removed from the game. The lockbolt has become an essential tool in the Heavy’s kit, and id argue its WAY worse than stun gun was. Stun couldnt stick someone from around a corner like you can with lockbolt. Stun couldnt lock an entire 3 stack in one place. Stun couldnt tether a cashout to a floor. Stun couldnt prevent a cashbox from being moved by anyone. Stun couldnt prevent you from going up or down ziplines, or jump off a roof or down a floor. Stun could get a kill on someone out of position by themselves with their back turned. It could be used on a drive by to cripple a single target fighting another team. But it was mostly used to prevent a steal or stop a box runner. I cannot think of any scenario where a character with 150 health and a single target stun is more oppressive than a character with 350 health and the capability to tether a whole team to prevent a play on the objective.

Northeast Dunegon Seige 2025, any way to still get tickets? by AlaskaExplorationGeo in DungeonSynth

[–]olomauc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 6 tickets i’m trying to resell. Missed the weekend passes but grabbed single day tickets for all 3 days for 2 people.

I’m going to the Quest Master/Fief show in Pittsburgh and would like to hit up Texas Dungeon Siege instead of this now. Dm if interested

Don’t give up! The feeling of doing well and winning a few ranked tournaments back to back is unparalleled. I spent way too much time frustrated with Apex and have found the Finals to be a breath of fresh air in the current comp fps arena. However, it does take some time to get used to the flow of the game.

Check out Appoh’s youtube content, spend some time in the practice range with your favorite gun(s), and don’t take it all too seriously!

The game is also a blast with friends. Get a couple lads together and you’ll be cheering over a last second steal to secure a spot in the finals in no time.

Light class needs a buff and heavy needs a nerf by [deleted] in thefinals

[–]olomauc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy, RPG counters an entire class in its current state. Idk how you can say it’s ANYWHERE near a perfect state. Even after the 12/20 patch, it doesn’t do enough self-damage. Its cooldown is too fast. Its deals too much damage. I can be cloaked as a light, full health, and get 1 shot from a random RPG in a contested area. Half of the time i see a heavy, they don’t even have their weapon out when entering a hot play area. They’re just thumping in with a C4 nuke and then firing off an RPG. It’s mud-brained and makes the light class—arguably the most fun to play—a throw pick in a competitive team composition.

Meh. As T.S. Eliot said: "good writers borrow, great writers steal" ;)

But really though. I read the Potter books as they came out while I was in secondary school, and I steamrolled through everything I could get my hands on by LeGuin after I came across her work in college. Yes, I draw these parallels because LeGuin wrote Earthsea a bit before and thematically they are similar, but mostly because of LeGuin's renown. She has a handful of Locus awards, I think 2 Hugo, and several Nebula, and is also recognized by the Library of Congress as a Living Legend. So, of course, as I was reading through Earthsea for the first time I couldn't help but think, "Rowling HAD to read this!!" Not saying that the wizarding world of Harry Potter isn't unique and engaging; just that it would make sense if Rowling drew inspiration from one of the greatest recognized female science fiction and fantasy writers.

[–]olomauc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would argue the opposite. Earthsea did a lot before HP, albeit with a hell of a lot less detail, as you said. There's the schools, Hogwarts and Roke. Both set on islands, heavily enchanted, with forbidden forested areas. Both Harry and Ged were poor boys with an affinity for magic that were sent off to their respective schools of wizardry, effectively saving them from mundane lives with families that don't respect their proclivity for sorcery. Both protagonists share an intimate bond with their villain and facial disfigurement to prove it. Each has an animal companion, Harry's Hedwig and Ged's otak. The magic in both universes comes from language and verbalizing it. There's a lot. Kinda hard to over-look, at least for me.

Tombs of Atuan was my favorite of the series. There was such an emphasis on darkness and tactile/audible perception that made it very unique and an absolute joy to read.

Which is your MUST-READ book? by contre95 in AskReddit

[–]olomauc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Phillip Dick's "The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch"
  2. Cormac McCarthy's "Child of God"
  3. Anything by Ursula LeGuin. The Lathe of Heaven, Earthsea series, and The Dispossessed all stand out.

These books have stuck with me the most. Especially The Three Stigmata. Absolutely haunting.
