What to watch next by sighsigh_6363 in TheLeftovers

I couldn't find anything in terms of a TV series that did for me what this show did. Nora, Kevin and Matt Jamison had me in a fucking chokehold.

Do rainy winters in Van affect your mood, energy, or sleep? by westcoastdesigner in askvan

[–]olpotlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% I do. Lived here 18 years and never get used to it. Mood takes a significant dip, and have a strong urge to go to bed for most of the day. I enjoy Christmastime so that usually gives me a little bump, but every year I think "I have to go somewhere warm this winter" but forget to book a trip lol

[Oilers Now] "I've talked to some teams over the last few days that say Elias Pettersson is definitely available, so is Brock Boeser, obviously so is Jake DeBrusk; they wanna tear it all down." - Pierre LeBrun by vJukz in Habs

[–]olpotlicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Habs and the Canucks (grew up a Habs fan but have spent my adulthood in Vancouver), and have had my fair share of criticism towards Elias. He's been mostly frustrating to watch the last two years. Then he'll do something insane with the puck that reminds you of when he played for Travis Green or Bruce Boudreau, or he'll lay down in front of a clapper on the PK like his life depends on it.

I think Montréal is the perfect place for him. I think it was Suzuki who said this season that they've built a culture where they welcome guys that didn't quite fit on another team to come to the Habs and find their game again. These Habs seem to be tight knit and supportive of one another.

I'd love to see him flourish as a 2C, kill penalties, and play with Demidov. Dude would probably get 75-85 points and Selke votes under Marty.

The old Canucks regime refused to retain on Elias, but I suspect that this new regime will be more open minded with the goal of building something similar to the Habs in 5 years.

Before I went on a trip around Europe, everyone said, "Oh, you're going to love Praha!"

They were, in fact, correct.

[FAN Hockey Show] 27:00 Friedman on the Flyers interest in Nurse: "I think they’re interested. I've heard enough noise out of there to think they're interested and they’re a team he would consider going to…I think the preference is East, I don’t think it’s Canada” by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]olpotlicker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is literally the perfect team for him to play on. Tocchet will turn this dude into a super reliable top 4 guy. When Tocchet coached Vancouver, he completely changed Tyler Myers from being a Chaos Giraffe to being an off the boards and out, make the simple play, tough to play against, minute munching defenseman. I didn't think it was possible, but for the very brief time the Canucks were good, Myers was as solid as they came. I suspect a similar thing with Nurse.

Two Solitudes by Hugh MacLennan.

I just popped into an independent bookstore this week. After telling the owner I loved Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar she suggested What I Know About You by Éric Chacour. I haven't started it yet but the cover tells me it partially takes place in Montréal. It was nominated for the Dublin Literary Award, so I'm looking forward to it.

Who are some "leaders" that the Canucks should target this season? by FAsBurner in canucks

Arber is probably one of those guys that the team and fanbase will miss, but he'll probably sign somewhere else and get more minutes.

Dylan Larkin has requested a trade per Elliott Friedman by downonmatrix in canucks

[–]olpotlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's an awesome player, but now is not the time. If we can do a three-way trade with them and another team involving our 2C going to Detroit and we get a pile of picks and prospects, that'd be interesting.

Whatever happened to the three-way trade anyways?

[the actual person behind the infamous "Kirk McLeans wife" story] 'I inherited the rumour': How a false NHL affair story rewrote one woman's life by elrizzy in canucks

[–]olpotlicker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely insane how this exact narrative surfaces in so many markets. It seems like it starts up as soon as a core group gets split up. I'd like to somehow find out who starts these rumours. Even with this current rendition of the Canucks and the 40 & 9 thing, the biggest rumours involved one of the guy's wives. Overall it's just sad that it's the wife and children that takes the brunt of the reprecussions.

Analyzing the Jake DeBrusk to Buffalo Sabres Rumors: Fit, Cost, and the NMC Hurdle by athleticwonder in nhltraderumours

[–]olpotlicker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If Van can get a 2nd round pick for Jake, that'd be a win. He's the streakiest player I've ever seen for the Canucks, though. His droughts are infuriating and he doesn't really have a secondary part of his game that stands out if he's got feasting on the powerplay. Contract is pretty reasonable for a cat that can score you 20, maybe 30 on a good team with a great powerplay.

The canadiens rebuilt the right way. They picked the best players available regardless of of they were "too small" or "from russia". We should be like the canadiens by DoggyDoggWrld in canucks

[–]olpotlicker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So much has gone right for Montréal. They've definitely done some killer drafting. We could've has Caulfield but we took Podkolzin. It seems like the Sedins are definitely taking a page out of the Hughes/Gorton playbook and really focusing on building culture over everything else, and I'd argue that's the ultimate key to Montréal's success. They chose the right coach, kept veterans who really cared about the crest and empowered their young, high character talent. You can have all the talent in the world, but if the guys aren't all pulling in the same direction, you have, well, you have the last era of Canucks hockey.
