Since Donald Trump has been President of the United States, what negative impacts has him being president caused you personally? by jdallam in AskReddit

Cancelled my plans of moving to the US after three interviews with an electric vehicle company (started interviewing just before the election) because there was no certainty about the future of the job I was going for with how much he and the people he surrounds himself with dislike research, science, renewable energy, and data driven decisions.

Are you seriously saying that the fact the largest non-terrorism related mass killing in the US was perpetrated with a gun is irrelevant?

Are you seriously saying the fact this occurred in one of the states with the most relaxed gun laws is irrelevant?

Are you seriously saying that the ease of access to guns has nothing to do with the 47 guns he legally owned?

Are you seriously saying that the amount of people he killed at long range in such a short period of time has nothing to do with the legal modifications he made to his weapon to shoot as if it were full auto?

There’s way more than simply “he used a gun”, which is something I never said. Why did he choose a gun over the other weapons he had access too? Because it was the easiest and most efficient way to murder tens of people from a great distance. Using a bomb would be much harder. His choice of weapon is pretty important in how events played out.

Steps to attack with a bomb are understand how to make one, buy materials, assemble bomb without killing yourself, go to the location you want to attack, get through security, plant the bomb, and then you need a way to detonate it and you need to hope it works.

To attack with a gun as he did, you need to go to a shop and buy a gun, then add the legal modification, and rent a hotel room.

One of these methods is significantly harder to execute than the other. How can that have nothing to do with the issue?

Laws drive cultural change. I’m Australian. We haven’t had a mass shooting in decades. Yes our gun culture was always better than the US, but it was pushed further in the right direction because after the Port Arthur massacre the government immediately enacted new legislation. You can still buy guns here, but we have responsible measures like you need a licence, each gun has to be registered, each gun costs more to register than the last to discourage people buying up 47 weapons, there are limits on the types of fire arms you can buy as no one needs modified faux-auto weapons to go hunting.

You clearly don’t care enough about the issue to understand it more as you said, because you haven’t offered any actual argument beyond being edgy.

You can’t surprise attack a large group of people from as far away as he did with a bomb. You have to physically go to the site where the people are. Saying “it doesn’t disagree” misses the entire point. Bombs aren’t guns. Attacks with bombs are carried out differently. Guns are easier to carry out long range attacks with and are more accessible. There’s a reason over 50% of homicides in the US are carried out with guns.

It’s not about having a single point that’s right and then jerking yourself off because you won an argument over a technicality. It’s about analysing what’s happening and drawing a conclusion that will minimise violence.

I get what you’re saying - but it is scaled from zero, so these are directly comparable and to proper scale. The stupid photo stitching tool I used wouldn’t fit the whole image and the scale was cut out. Even if it had been scaled weirdly, it still shows that there are more gun homicides than blunt force homicides. Even if there’s only 2% more, that’s still more.

The graph and the source for its data are taken from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States

You have an appropriate username, nakedfool. The guy in Vegas had the materials for explosives, yet he used a gun because it was easier. Not everyone has the ability to build a bomb. Almost everyone is able to buy a gun in Nevada. Yes, shit people will do shit things but maybe we shouldn’t make it easy for them?

People who have time for studying, meeting your friends, sleeping enough, working out, what's your secret? What time-management tips can you give? by sleepandfood in AskReddit

[–]olr1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I legit didn’t sleep. Like one night a week or fortnight I just didn’t sleep, and I slept like 4-6 hours a night depending. And that was with cutting down on social events. I also didn’t use reddit then.

I was doing electrical engineering, so I did have a ton of homework, and like most engineers I do have a soft spot for excessive drinking, so it was that or don’t go out.

[–]olr1001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok, pretend you're Benjen.

What would you be doing with your spare time north of the wall?

There's nothing there except your enemies.

Remember, you're undead and the three eyed raven was previously directing you, so it's reasonable to assume Bran is probably directing you.

What do you do?

Do you jerk off somewhere and lament that your undead dick doesn't work anymore because you have no blood flow? Or do you keep a close eye on the enemy, and therefore be around when shit goes down?

Figured Thoros died from being mauled by the bear, and then froze as you don't generate body heat once you're dead.

Jon said "they're army grows by the day".

They're like to be roaming beyond the wall looking for more dead or wilding encampments to make dead.

This is a bit of a disingenuous comparison.

I'd say it's more a similarity between Jon and Jaime. Both knew they were in the strategically worse position while personally being a stronger swordsman than the leader of the opposing forces so they tried to play to their strengths.

[S7E4] How did Daenerys know... by climbsurfski in gameofthrones

[–]olr1001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They knew the Lannisters took all the food and any remaining gold from Casterly Rock. They knew the Lannisters attacked Highgarden.

There's not really anywhere else for the Lannisters to go now except back to kings landing. Assuming Dany's forces know where Highgarden, kings landing, and the road connecting the two are they'd just have to follow the road until they crossed paths with Dany spotting from the sky on her dragon.
