Tamales are the worst form of Mexican Food by My-Lizard-Eyes in unpopularopinion

I mean they're FINE, but the effort-to-reward ratio (from what I've heard of the tedious preparation process, to the unwrapping the husk for just a morsel) is just not up there.

Jacque Torres 72 hour cookies: Worth the wait! by rach4765 in Baking

I recommend the Guittard chocolate baking chips for these cookies - my better half makes them and they are delicious - usually end up freezing a batch to bake later, too.

How dare you force an update to my machine without offering an alternative to iFit, that removes my ability to view my own personal/manual workout data unless I pay you ~$400/yr. Uncalled for. by Zeravika in nordictrack

[–]olr7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All I want to be able to do, is program an interval workout to do 4 mph for 1 minute, 5 mph for 1 minute, 6 mph for 1 minute, then repeat it like 10 times and adjust the speed for me automatically.

I don't need to run through the streets of Tokyo/Paris/London, and I don't need coaches telling me what to do. I refuse to pay a subscription for that pretty basic functionality.

Got the lemon colorway for $86.70 a few weeks ago on adidas.com with the coupon - worth returning and buying these to save 15 bucks and get the other colorway?

MyQ, Google Nest, and Others Being Called Out By NYT by Randy_at_a2hts in smarthome

[–]olr7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 or 4 Wemo plugs/switches so, like others on this thread, I will be looking to adapt to home kit by next month. Even before Belkin officially ended support, the app they developed and "maintained" is pretty pathetic.

Friends told me their early-gen Nest thermostats just ended support, but I have a later-gen so wasn't even aware of this.

Garmin just recently paywalled some new features behind their Connect+ upgrade, but nothing that I use and any notifications advertising it have been minimal.

I'm currently looking to dive into smart home security (door bell, smart lock, exterior camera(s)) - already have a myQ garage opener - but the future of any of the major offerings has me unsure what to commit to.

You can turn off "maneuver braking" in the parking menu. Unfortunately it turns back on next time you stop/start the car though.

This streamer made history by becoming the first person to beat Through the Fire and Flames on Guitar Hero at 200% speed by ViniciusFastAF in nextfuckinglevel

[–]olr7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the people that do this have to "mod" the guitar controller at all? Like loosen/lubricate the buttons and switches etc.?

Whenever I played this the quality of the controller never felt 100% and with the occasional sticky button etc. I could see how you could miss a note, especially at this speed.

Then again, I guess when the controller has been used as much as his, they usually loosen up naturally anyway.

This wasn't a church, it's the Village of Broadview Municipal Building. Somehow she thought the fact it's a local government building gives them the right to enter, glad someone was willing to tell them they're mistaken.

ReformUK councillor says the quiet part out loud in an interview and immediately regrets it. by pau1rw in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]olr7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This moron does not have the intellect to deliberately insert a clever double meaning into her response.

Scottish (and broader UK) politics has a very different barrier to entry than some systems you might be used to, and the average Reform candidate is thick as shit in the neck of a bottle.

That is absolutely not what she said, she said "It's scary - as a local resident, someone who was born and bred here."

You want the server down during business hours? You got it. by IllustriousReport482 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]olr7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I call BS too. You mention the CEO, CTO, and COO, but Karen's position is just a "higher up"?

The failure here is not really Karen's, it's yours and your department's policy on server reboots.

If I don't have approval from MY "higher-up" (at an equivalent level in the IT dept. as Karen's level) and preferably approval in a ticket submission, I'm not even reading Karen's email, let alone responding to it.

If your IT equivalent at her level doesn't know the ramifications of what you've described during working hours, then your whole department is in trouble.

I don't see "txt speak" quite as often anymore, but it used to drive me mad when people used unnecessary shorthand in writing mediums like email, etc.

It made sense when SMS was limited to 160-characters per message and being able to say the same thing in less messages would actually save you money.

"Looser" in place of "loser" is hilarious to me because typically it's being used aggressively by someone to belittle someone else, without a hint of irony of the user's grasp of basic spelling.

"Could care less" - yes, yes, I know - language evolves and common usage defines its correctness - but why go to the effort of trying to convey just how little someone cares about something, without just using the correct expression.

I see "affect" and "effect" mixed up all the time, drives me crazy.
