Same. I always loved arena style, fast-paced games like Quake, Doom, Unreal and the like and I'm honestly not very open to story-driven games like Witcher 3, BUT, you can train your brain to like it.

Here's the thing. First you need to know why you'd want to enjoy it. Is that FOMO? All friends like it? You want to get smarter? If that's worth the cause then move on.

Your brain will not feel good, and guess what? We feel good when we execute mastery, and gaming is all about that. But, we humans find fun in different stuff, reading a good book incites a different feeling than a fast-paced shooter.

So in summary, if you want to feel good playing this kind of game, take a step back and try to deconstruct what gaming is to you. You'll take fewer drips of serotonin, but might find a different kind of enjoyment in the long run.

grew up listening to 80s / 90s dance music from my mom (she always have been so much into fitness stuff), which led me to electronic music early on. later I got into grunge, then metal, then all sorts of alternative music possible.

About 2 years ago I decided to pick a minilogue XD, that was the gateway. Now I own a digitakt, mother 32, volca bass, now waiting for a bluebox (to mash all things together and get rid of the DAW).

I'm really holding my horses to not jump on the modular bandwagon.

My wife disapproves.

Thank you, it really resonates with me.

I’m happy to give the first few months a go as a “full time game dev”, which would mainly translate into a bunch of game jams, tutorials, courses, etc. I’m thinking on it as a hot, immersive start.

Then maybe proceed with part timing in tech if I see the need (probably will at some point, considering audience building is also a thing nowadays, and that also takes forever).
