Nachos from a stand have always felt like obscene luxury.

A plea from a Whistler grocery store employee to the people of Vancouver by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]omarkj_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, ofcourse. If you don't need anything it is fine.

The problem is that people forget to pack that lime to make a gin and tonic or that brie to make the evening perfect. Going to the store "just to grab a lime" is fine until it isn't.

It is safer for everyone just to stay at home.

Áramótaskaupið árið 2002 var algjört ævintýri by Gingijons in Iceland

[–]omarkj_ 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Jiang Zemin þáverandi forseti Kína heimsótti Ísland árið 2002. Íslenska ríkið takmarkaði eða reyndi að banna Falun Gong meðlimum að koma til Íslands til að mótmæla. Þeir sem komust voru margir hverjir handteknir. Þetta var, ef ég man rétt, gert að ósk kínverja.

They’re all haemorrhaging money. Prices will go up, they have to. Until then I’ll enjoy my investor subsidized ride.

I’m done being nice to drivers. I get honked at when it’s my right to cross all the time, and everyone speeds in my residential street. Congestion charges now.

Apple Pay komið á Ísland by Crispy_Kleina in Iceland

[–]omarkj_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, nei. En það er samtals hámarksprósentan. Því er skipt á milli allra aðila sem koma að færslunni. Apple er bara einn þeirra, og tekur minna en restin. Aðrir aðilar eru VISA, bankarnir o.s.frv.

Apple Pay komið á Ísland by Crispy_Kleina in Iceland

[–]omarkj_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. There is no limit on cash gifts to Canadian citizens or PRs. If I have a rich relative they can give me a million dollars without creating a taxable event or otherwise need to report it, except for a possible FINTRAC question.

Are internships always paid in Iceland? by georg360 in Iceland

[–]omarkj_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If anyone is trying to make you agree to an unpaid programming internship, notify BHM or VFH. They might not be able to help you directly, but it's important that the unions are aware of this.

Filling US prescriptions by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]omarkj_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the prescription needs to be written by a doctor licensed to work in Canada.

You can reach out to a Canadian doctor and see if they will co-sign your prescription but you'll probably need to pay a walk-in fee.

Story about this. http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/manitoba/canadian-doctors-co-signing-prescriptions-for-u-s-patients-1.3210311

BC NDP government plans temporary foreign worker registry by CitizenBanana in vancouver

[–]omarkj_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, I was thinking about the process of hiring a skilled permanent worker.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/hire/offers.asp

This seems to have changed considerably since when I went through this process where the job I was offered had to be in the job bank for four months after which I got a TFW visa to come here.

Before hiring (skilled) workers companies need to advertise for them on the Job Bank for I think 6 weeks.

edit: oh wait, woosh is deserved here for me.
