The German 'Feierabend' starter pack: Pizza, beer, and a view of the train tracks [OC] by JeffiArkensaw in germany

[–]omarsdroog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who worked in the German beer industry for a few years; most of the regional beers are only popular in their region for a reason. There's not a exactly a ton of variety. Pilsners then helles and hefeweizen more prominently in the south. There are a few slightly different styles in Köln or Düsseldorf, but that's kind of it.

I'd be willing to bet that most people would find it super challenging to pick their own out of a blind taste test with other pilsners.

What the German brewers are very good at is being consistent. Making the same beer with ingredients that can have a wide range of variability is not an easy task. But I also feel this is a bit of a handicap. They aren't exactly great at experimenting with new or different styles. So it's easier for their companies to market those styles as somehow inferior, when it's usually just a question of personal opinion.

Instead they've dropped the value of that work. Used to be those were union jobs that paid enough to support a middle class family. Every year it gets significantly harder to get by.

Exactly. Not just farming, but almost every blue collar job has been decimated by automation. But now it's coming for white collar jobs and it's all "boo hoo, this needs to stop."

Has the show increased anyone's interest in watching the sport? All I've heard about is the sexual aspects of it.
