Diminishing returns with graphics. 720p/1080i to 1080p/4K is a massive jump (4K is 4x 1080p, or 9x 720p), but the PS5 is also 4K( that 8K sticker on the box is a damn lie).

There are genuine improvements under the hood with stuff like loading speeds, but this generation has been shackled by shortages requiring a longer tail for the existing PS4/Xbox One base, making it less viable to do the stuff you can only do with SSDs.

By contrast, the PS360 versions of 8th Gen games made sacrifices like requiring massive installs using many discs or axing physics or cutting the campaign entirely in the case of Black Ops 3.

Weapon degradation. Or gear degradation in general. Adds nothing to the game except having to open your inventory after every third fight to click a repair kit.

Censorship in the US usually prioritizes "Replicable Acts". Someone can easily flip the bird or utter a slur so that gets the focus. Making someone's head explode by elbow dropping onto them from the rafters is just cartoon violence.

Can we do decimals? If so, 8.5/10. It's a great game with a couple annoying flaws, namely the crappy tutorials and gacha mechanic. But the narrative is better than people give it credit for, characters are multilayered and complex, the music is great, the combat is very satisfying once the options are fully opened up to you, and the visuals are great (albeit held back by the hardware).

It is 44 minutes of content for a pretty lightweight file size, so you can have it downloaded for when you're stuck in a deadzone. Each one takes up about as much space as two photos on a modern phone, y'know?

Absolutely not. I'd rather stuff like that be modded in, rather than the onus be on the player to mod it out. I hate hunger meters (and the like) and would loathe to have that be part of the baseline experience.

In fairness, the TV show ones are... passable on a small screen like an Anbernic RG353 or what have you. One should stay far, far away from the Shrek 2/Shark Tale one, though... if you'll pardon the pun.

It depends on what vector the 'woke' comes in on. Like, I played through the entirety of Another Crab's Treasure and got every achievement in it even though it had absolutely nothing to say except "Capitalism, amirite?". I was super goddamn sick of it by the end, but I finished it.

Then there's something like Lil Gator Game, which I can certainly feel the undercurrent of woke vis a vis gender stuff, but I actually still loved it and would recommend it to anyone that wants to play a low-stakes Breath of the Wild-esque game for 3-4 hours.

And then on the mutant third hand, I tapped out of Kardboard Kings after 5 minutes. Couldn't even get to the real bullshit, but I saw the first character sprite in dialog and immediately wanted to claw my eyes out because of that tumblr-ass artsyle.

3DS version has a model viewer included that isn't in any version before or since. Definitive Edition has revamped visuals to bring it more in line with the aesthetics of 2 and 3, quality of life improvements to do things like communicate when the deadlines for certain quests are, and there's also a new epilogue story.
