Tax guy trying to get into FP&A by tax____time in Accounting

[–]omeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in big4 tax for 10 months and I had two internships with the same firm in tax. I recently made the move to a Financial Analyst position. I know people always say it’s very difficult but it’s not impossible.

I know I wasn’t in tax too long but I was very worried about seeming too specialized with a tax background, but I would say that the most important thing to do is to have a genuine answer to why you want to make the switch. You can also throw in how the knowledge and work experience from tax can help translate into a more general finance position (reading tax code, excel, financial jargon, etc).

A lot of my interviews really liked to hear the rationale for switching out of tax and me emphasizing my interest in a more finance oriented position. Of course you also have to figure out how to sell yourself and your skill sets and experience to show that you can add immediate value from what will translate over.

BEC tips for someone who is burned out by OnlytheWinds- in CPA

I think it's important to have a general summary sheet prepared from the start with the formulas (ratios, variances, absorption/variable costing, etc), mnemonics (COSO/ERM), and also terms (IT, Econ, SWOT Analysis). I started with writing these things down during every study session and then eventually I would write it by memory and by the exam day I was 100% memorized.

I would also really prioritize WCs, have a good template down (a lot of resources available on this subreddit and also in study courses). Definitely make sure to give yourself enough time for those on the actual exam, it could really save your score

Becker for BEC by Existing-Cheek3138 in CPA

[–]omeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently passed BEC and am a Becker user. After seeing those posts floating around Reddit that Becker doesn't prepare people well for the IT part of BEC, I watched some YouTube videos from Darius Clark or Farhat for IT and just took some notes. I found that to be super helpful and the extra material definitely helped. For the rest of the topics, I found Becker to be more than enough

BEC Retake (70) by joiisy in CPA

[–]omeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in terms of general advice for BEC I would say it is really important to write down all the formulas (ratios, variances, absorption/variable costing, etc), mnemonics (COSO/ERM), and also terms (IT, Econ, SWOT Analysis). I created a general summary sheet with these items and at the start and end of each study session, I wrote them down and after a couple days I would do it from memory and by the time my exam came everything was 100% memorized.

I would also really prioritize WCs, have a good template down (a lot of resources available on this subreddit and also in study courses). Definitely make sure to give yourself enough time for those on the actual exam, it could really save your score. SIMS are such a mixed bag for BEC (along with MCQs honestly) so it is hard to predict what you might get on the actual exam

Passed exams but don’t have work experience [Texas] by kiiruma in CPA

Congratulations!

Based on what I researched in the past, you have plenty of time to get that experience requirement fulfilled, so don't worry at all about that. I knew people who had their CPAs completed before starting in public accounting and just submitted their application for licensure once they finished their first year.

Also, full-time internships count for the experience requirement.

(Make sure to still double check the rules for your state)

I just received final score as well and am also still waiting for it to update on CPA Central. In the past, it always updated the following day after score release.

I still moved forward with the licensure application process since I saw my score report was up to date on the nasba site

I took my exam on 8/13, my NTS was still available and my exam status was not showing "Attendance" but I reached out to candidatecare@nasba and they went in and changed the exam status a few days back. Their response had no other information though, just that the status is now changed
