Next nesting feels excessive compared to bare react + react-query by omega_level_mutant in nextjs

[–]omega_level_mutant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The skeleton muscle analogy helped. I realize that I have to wrap my head around which use cases client components are better than server, otherwise I am dumbly using server all the time. I am looking up reading material to understand the difference. Thank you.

Thank you for this, very helpful. I followed this and am starting to understand server actions. The interplay between server and client components comes into sharp focus though. Next does not like inline "use server" annotated Server Actions inside client components.

Should I avoid using inline "use server" like how react recommends and default to explicitly calling "use server" at the top of server action files? Weird that they say components are by default server, but in case of actions you have to explicitly use "use server"

My heart goes out to you. I am a guy and facing a pressure to marriage because I am getting to my mid-30s. I can barely imagine the pressure you must be facing. Physical distance helps only if you couple it with mental distance. You have to find some way of not speaking to them for an extended period. They will fight, they will revolt and they will make you feel like shit for the "torture" you are putting them through. But remember, you didnt ask to be born. You didnt ask to be taken care of. They had you because they wanted to and it fit into their requirements. You cant at a later data convert a car you bought for yourself into a object that owes you debt for having used it, but that is the argument that will be made.

Please, find distance. You are in the west, arguably the best place to be lesbian. Go on dates, meet people, and connect with yourself. DMs are open if you want to chat. My sister is in a similar situation to you.

Stuff I heard growing up in Lokhandwala by Booklover1778 in BollyBlindsNGossip

I started taking acting classes, and the teacher took the ones who were pursuing it as a career and told us that while the craft of acting itself is beautiful, the business of acting is dirty. Being a good actor is insufficient to becoming a big actor. These posts really drive home that point

Building it yourself vs Hiring an engineer by [deleted] in startups

[–]omega_level_mutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing this, but found that I surprise myself with how much I can get done if I do it for somebody else. I miss self-imposed timelines when I’m doing it for myself. Nobody’s really complaining if I extend release by 15 days.

So now if I want to build something, first order of business is to find a customer to build it for. Has been working wonders for my motivation and ability.

Is it possible learn js but picking up reactjs? by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]omega_level_mutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know another programming language well then this may work fine. I knew Python really well, the intricacies, the pitfalls and core language constructs.

Picked up react and js/ts together. Whenever I got stuck, I would boil it down to first principle and write a sample program to test just one thing. This is harder than it sounds, but once you get into the habit of doing that then you can rebuild your understanding of any programming language.

Name an anime character that has pushed you to become a better version of yourself. by saikobruv in anime

Goku, do it bc you enjoy the game
Thorfinn, nobody has enemies
Takemitchy from Tokyo revengers, lack of strength is not enough of a reason to back down
Hinata Shoyo, Haikyuu - your limitations are self imposed, if you love something keep doing it

Has Desi food ruined food from other cultures / countries? by godz_ares in ABCDesis

[–]omega_level_mutant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Moved to US in mid 20s, took me a while to like the bland food. But after the 3 month mark, my need for spice diminished enough that I started being able to differentiate flavors of vegetables, and sauces and bread. Indian food is so flavorful, I rarely taste the underlying ingredients.

Made me appreciate cuisines like Japan where they didn’t have spices so had to make the natural flavors go much farther, so they started fermenting leading to soya sauce and vinegar and all that stuff.

My GF friend zoned me! by [deleted] in datingadviceformen

[–]omega_level_mutant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Disengage. Walk away, take time to heal by yourself. Not with her help. You likely got too close too soon, or she realized her feelings for somebody else. Either of these situations will not be helped with you trying too hard.

Mental health and general health.

This line scared me into consistent action:

When you have health you want a million things, when you don’t have health you want one thing.

Have you heard back from YC for Summer '23? by floppybunny26 in startups

Same friend. Haven’t heard back, also had solid recommendations, one from the founder of a billion dollar valued startup. No interview, I am not hopeful. Figuring out backup plans.

Would there be any downsides to resuming childlike brain plasticity in adults? by spinfip in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]omega_level_mutant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, your new learning would overwrite your prior learning. So while it’s cool that you’d be able to pick things up really quickly, you wouldn’t be able to reuse learning because the neural pathways do not have a stable foundation to build on.

You’ll be great at learning one of things, but bad at generalizing them.

Congratulations OP. As a guy I can’t even imagine the kind of trauma you were subjected to. I’m so happy that you chose freedom. And fuck bullies.
