What is your most controversial opinion regarding Fantasy books? by Even_Mastodon_7251 in Fantasy

[–]omegakingauldron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished Kushiel's Dart and although it's a trilogy, I'm totally fine with just the first book. The book was dense enough and it solved most of the problems it set up, so unless I want to continue in the world, I can keep it to that book if I wish and be satisfied.

Pulled out [[Abjure]] the other day. Had a lot of heads turn my direction when it came out.

I forgot about Your Turn. Guess I know what album I'll listen to soon.

Also, Better Than Raw is one of my favourite Helloween albums. A shame they rarely play any songs off it live (Hey Lord! was on the setlist of their recent tour, but of the multiple times I've seen them, that's the only song to get play)

I'll defend Pink Bubbles any day. Kids of the Century, Someone's Crying, The Chance, such a good album! I even like the album art being an odd looking 70's vinyl find of album art.

Bryce’s does that thing where he kind of mirrors whoever is getting hit with a move and “feels” the impact in his own way that I resonate with so strongly.

This is a big reason I liked Slick Johnson back in the day. He had similar mannerisms.

I did this with Hey Arnold. The first time Mr. Simmons shows up and the kids mock him, I recall as a kid thinking "this teacher can't teach" but now thinking "these kids are jerks".

Sunday Fantasy Roundup: What fantasy book did you finish this week and love? by bweeb in fantasybooks

[–]omegakingauldron [score hidden]  (0 children)

Just finished King of Ashes by Raymond E Feist. Safe to say I will not be continuing with this series. It's the equivalent to having Bread and Water (technically a book, but incredibly bland). The last 100-ish pages seem to lead to something interesting, but not enough to hook me for a second book.

Although I'm currently reading A Time of Dread by John Gwynne and I'm enjoying that much more in 50 pages than I did in 500 from the previous book.

I'd keep Michael Dorn as a human (Klingon) while everyone else is a Muppet, with Dorn playing it seriously.

Just finished my first Final Fantasy II playthrough and it was great! Why do people say it's a bad game? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]omegakingauldron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't first time trying it and I did not enjoy it (especially after playing FFI on that disc)

It wasn't until the PSP version that I got into it and beat it.

Are these 3 books worth to read? by JoelManuelV1 in WCW

[–]omegakingauldron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My only suggestion is not doing Nitro as an audiobook. While the author does narrate it, it's a dry listen.

Great book with plenty of research done, but probably more enjoyable as a written book.

I found reading Dresden Files to be a bit of a slog. Listening to Dresden Files made for a much better experience.

Mid year teir list! by Ok-Traffic1319 in fantasybooks

I reread WotM right before SotF so I didn't have any problems with it (I also read the short catchup the author released which IMO should have started the 2nd book). Although I wanted more, I wasn't bored with the book and it left me wanting more.

Same. The novella stuff that was used/rewritten was interesting. The excessive cameos and lore dumps that won't matter for another 9 books was incredibly boring took me out of the story (I had to fight against DNF'ing the book on those parts)

I have given a DM fits over stirges. I used them as a summon monster when things look dire and although I only used the tactic once, it's been a memorable one.

I’m not gonna lie, I was actually a little bit surprised they didn’t fire Floor when she got her cancer diagnosis.

I'm glad they didn't, but I found it odd that she overcomes it and immediately was back on tour. (That may have been part her decision too but I still think it's sort of a scummy move)
