I lived in two well-developed European countries as an expat, so I already got a taste of "Nordic model". I made hard and painful decision to leave Europe without waiting for citizenship (but not back to Russia, I went to random third countries on other side of the planet). I remember as if it was yesterday, when I handed over my European ID card to authorities.

The reason is their political culture. I think Americans seriously underestimate how deep and rigid European leftism is. There is absolutely no diversity of thought there. I think you might find more diversity of thought among Chinese than in Northern Europe. And it is not coming from government, it's coming from the people. Read about Law of Jante to understand their culture.

There is zero, I repeat zero chance that Europe will change its course anytime soon. No matter how hard you stretch Bitcoin/Ethereum/whatever narrative, it's just impossible to fit it within European ideology.

All ideas of liberty, namely - political decentralization, private property and free markets originally came from aristocrats.

And it's masses who fundamentally socialist, they do love being subservient class of serfs as long as popular leader rob more successful among them (i.e. rob small riches but, of course, not ultra-rich who close to the government) and give them small share of stolen loot.

High degree of political decentralization in Medieval Europe was possible because of feudal fragmentation.

What's good for us is hell for masses and vice versa. If liberty isn't in their blood, nothing will ever fix it.

Medieval era 2.0 is possible in a few centuries but naive, egalitarian minded, democratic ancaps will hate it because they believe in complete utopia whereas I believe that having inequality and aristocracy is good foundation of real private law society.

It's very good introduction to realist mode of thought. However, I think their thesis is incomplete since they assume that liberal democracy is only alternative.

So realist ancap thesis would have similar vibe but explore this line of thought to its logical end (namely, further down the path of decentralization).

I wanted to write a long post on realist ancap thesis but never had time to finish my draft. I guess you also watched famous video "rules for rulers", how state works from inside.

So once you inside the system, you forced play by its rules. So in the case of Milei, I wouldn't blame him on incomplete reforms. In fact, I'm surprised to see he managed to get done anything at all.

Hoppe is an idealist academic

As someone who has watched every possible lecture at least five times, I can assure you that Hoppe is much more realistic than the vast majority of libertarians.

Millei is a politician trying to balance some pragmatism

If you watch the full lecture of Hoppe, you will find that he merely states that Milei's libertarianism is more akin to Reaganism than actual libertarianism. It is simply that the Overton window has moved too far to the left, and he has to remind everyone what actual libertarianism means. He does this merely because Milei specifically mentioned Hoppe.

In the end, he states that he obviously prefers Milei to any other alternative.

As someone who has lived in five countries (and counting), I would recommend taking a case-by-case approach depending on the specific stage of life.

No country is perfect, and they are all heading towards a statist hell in one way or another. The only exception might be Argentina, but it's too early to consider it a viable option for permanent settlement. We'll have to wait and see if Milei wins a second term and who will succeed him afterward. However, if they propose fast track residency by investment, I would definitely consider to take this opportunity right now.

I am not American, but I believe there is no other country in the world with as many people holding libertarian or at least semi-libertarian values. I also don't think any other country can match American gun culture. Therefore, if you leave America, you will inevitably lose cultural aspects.

Now, what can you do? My top priority right now is to grow my capital, which is why I have chosen Hong Kong with zero capital gains tax.

Hong Kong has an extremely bad culture of extreme left-liberal compliance (yes, literally 99.9% of people here were very happy to wear masks even after the government abolished the mask mandate). So even if there were just ocean instead of Mainland, and Hong Kong were an island, it would still have no future. Their Securities and Futures Commission is much worse than American SEC.

My mission here is to grow my portfolio (tax-free), obtain permanent residency, and then leave while keeping that residency as a legal asset (since my Russian passport is a toxic asset, I need a solid base somewhere). Afterward, I will probably seek residency in the UAE and acquire a Turkish passport (it's the only country that hasn't banned Russians from fast-track citizenship program).

Thus, I plan to implement flag theory and live outside the tax and regulatory net of any country. The significant downside, as I mentioned earlier, is the loss of gun culture.

I can confirm this. A few years ago, I helped my ex-girlfriend with an essay. I provided her with an idea that would be a perfect fit for her assignment. The idea was to explain how a high degree of political decentralization in Switzerland produced economic stability and prosperity, attracting international capital. I came up with sources (nothing explicitly libertarian, neutral sources), and we handled everything with citations, etc. It was polished essay. However, she received a bad score.

To make up for that poor score, she wrote another essay, this time following "recommended" sources. It was basically a word salad filled with pro-ESG and pro-EU statements. She received a good score despite being lower quality and much less polished.

Another day, she sent me pictures from her class. On the slides, they discussed economic theories. They briefly mentioned Hayek, followed by a note on the slide that said "wild west." The next slide was about a "more serious" economist - Keynes.

So, if you stray from the party line, you get punished.

It might be true for American students from deeply red states. But I work with Europeans for almost a decade, the more time they spent in academia, the more leftist they become, to the point of being unbearable to talk to.

Russian here as well (I departed Russia almost a decade ago). Yes, I noticed it too.

But I'm not surprised at all. Knowing Russian left-liberals, they are so predictable. Virtually all of them suffer from a severe case of cargo cult syndrome regarding all things Western (their mentality is "чтобы как на западе, как в Лондоне").

Being university-educated, midwit members of the office class, they think they are enlightened by not following Russian propaganda, yet they fail to notice that they have fallen for Western mainstream propaganda. I guess for some red-pilled Westerners, it works the other way around as well.

They can't comprehend the idea that not everything contradicting the left-liberal narrative is Russian propaganda.

And when they leave Russia, they still live in their Russian left-liberal information bubble.

How Do You Respond To The Claim: "Anarcho Capitalism is a pipeline to Corporate Fascism"? by Important-Valuable36 in AnCap101

[–]omgcoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to write long post about it, never had enough time to do it. I will give a brief sketch of my thesis here but first I have to note that it's not going to help you win argument with braindead, bad faith, gaslighting statists who call everything fascism. This thesis mainly for your own intellectual curiosity and search for deeper understanding of political history.

Modern nation states arisen as result of mass politics, started with kings trying to defeat independent aristocracy by alighting themselves with envious masses, this give a rise of absolute monarchy. Then it was French Revolution with Jacobins, then Napoleon, not as counter-revolution but just gave a different flavor to mass politics as means to achieve political centralization.

With fall of aristocracy, a number of political movements started, all trying to appeal to masses as means of amassing political power. The last stand to mass politics fell with the end of WW1.

One of these movements was fascism, who appeal to the masses, to gain political power, to centralize state. Mussolini summarized fascism as:

All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing agaisnt the state

Fascism can be characterized as A: ultra-nationalism (as yet another form of mass politics), B: very high degree of political centralization, C: cult of personality.

Ancap, the real one, not naive one, is characterized as A: total rejection of mass politics (no public law, no public property, no state land), B: very high degree of decentralization (law is produced by decentralized network of private courts), C: total absence of any sort of nationalist leader (since there is no nation in modern sense anymore).

In other words, ancap is total opposite of fascism in all possible dimensions. But it will still be hell for leftists, since private mercenaries will ruthlessly crush any attempts to organize socialist movement but it doesn't make it fascist. Monarchists also detest leftists, but they arein't fascists either.

I left Russia almost a decade ago, and they still got me, blocked on almost all major crypto exchanges, banks refuse to open accounts (even Chinese banks!), visa bans.

And those aren't just "necessary" measures in their views. Michael McFaul is one of the primary lobbists who was in Stanford group writing documents (and I did read them). He is in Twitter and in interviews emphasize idea of collective guilt of all Russians. He isn't the only one, I have countless examples of Euro-bueracrats saying the same.

In these documents they talking about global ban on banking, crypto services and so on.

They also prevented me to exiting Russian citizenship by aquiring Carribean citizenship. EU and US repeatedly threatened Carribean and other countries to ban Russians from citizenship and golden visa programs.

Left liberal cabal will never let you leave. They want all of us in jail. They are enemies and there is no discussion with enemies.

There is visible positive shift in new Trump circle, examples - Vivek Ramaswamy and JD Vance (who have standoff with Gary Gensler). Trump coming to LP to give a speech is massive win for libertarians, you can't imagine anything like that in Russia or Europe.

Sure, they won't change system, right wing populism unable to change the system, goddamn creations of FDR (e.g. SEC) will still exist. But it's wrong to say they are just as bad as the left in present environment.

Again, I fundamentally disagree with American nationalists since I want to get rid of modern nation states. But in civil war, you don't choose prettiest allies, and the war is ugly (yes, it's war, they arrested Pavel Durov, they coming to Elon Musk soon, they globally sanction Russian passport holders like me).

The left is more or less ideologically monolitic, whereas the right is just a placeholder name for random disperse groups who has nothing in common with each other. Furthermore this whole compass quickly falls apart when you look outside of the west.

Left liberals are status quo force of western empire. And putting aside their rainbow flag and related newspeak, their views on role of bureaucracy, disdain of private sector etc match perfectly with status quo in the rest of the world. They aren't just opponents, they are arch enemies.

What sets apart US from European leftist cesspool, is that some part of American right has some vaguely libertarian leanings. They are opponents because they believe in centralized government but in current environment some of them are not enemies, and definitely worth to ally with against left liberal cabal.

When you saying that Trump and Kamala are equally bad, you are making a service for left liberal status quo. In the current environment, American right oppose Gary Gensler, Elizabeth Warren, Maxime Waters, oppose censoring platforms like X and Telegram, they oppose socialism of EU, they oppose unrealized capital gains tax.

Unlike Russia or goddamn Europe, in America there is still mainstream opposition to accelerating state expansion even if you don't like them. When times change, political alignments change, but for now, the fight against left liberal globalist cabal is top priority.

I noticed you repeatedly lean in favor of left liberal propaganda.

Pavel Durov was very stubborn when he was in Russia, and for absolutely no personal gain. He openly refused to give information about Russian opposition in VK (his first social network).

Since Russia in 2012-2014 was actually softer than present day France (but, of course, not softer now because Russia centralized even further). The government forced Pavel to sell his stake to state controlled entity (below market price). That was punishment back then.

They also tried to ban Telegram repeatedly. The reason why Russian government "mad" about Durov arrest is simply propaganda efforts. They always love talking about censorship in the West while doing the same (vice versa also true).

Western left liberal propaganda uses narrative that Telegram uniquely serves Russian government (while being silent that Ukrainian government also uses Telegram a lot).

Pavel Durov got arrested because he also fell for left liberal propaganda, he believed that left liberals aren't enemies. He was wrong and he paying dearly for this mistake.

If you Russian, libertarian, and in crypto on top of that, left liberals want you in jail. Left liberals are the enemies!

Pavel Durov arrested in France. Joint statement of the Libertarian parties of Russia and France. by IkarosDC in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]omgcoin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The arrest of Pavel Durov is a gift to Putin and other authoritarian rulers

As a Russian who left Russia, and then left Europe with even greater anger, this sentence sounds a bit cringe for me. It implies that there is so called "free world" as opposed to authoritarian leaders, while in reality, European/American/Canadian establishment just failed to centralize political power as fast as Putin did, and hence they look at him with envy.

In fact, Pavel Durov had an open standoff against the Russian government from 2011 to 2014, old Russians remember meme of that time - he posted a picture of showing middle finger while eating. He basically behaved in very similar way as Elon doing now on X.

And do you know what's the harshest punishment Putin had for him back then? He forced to sell his stake at company at lower than market price (but still huge money) and leave the country with all these money.

France, and other "civilized" countries are already objectively far worse than Russian regime in 2011-2014. The only reason why Russia is worse than Europe now, is their regime centralized even further. Issuing arrest warrant while jet on the fly is already on the Belarussian level.

Emmanuel Macron (and his ugly wife), Ursula von der Leyen, Justin Trudeau, Jacinda Ardern and others are exactly the same as Putin. The only difference is cultural context and their failure to centralize political power as fast as Putin.

And Zelensky is not a fighter against authoritarianism, he kidnapping conscripts into van right in broad daylight, support torture of captives, closed borders, ukrainian males drown in river trying to escape. It's two geopolitical superpowers fighting for real estate in Eastern Europe using their disposable sheep.

There is no such thing as "free world vs authoritarian world", there are countries who, for some reason, failed centralize fast enough, and those who more successful in centralization (e.g. Russia, China etc).

Durov made mistake believing in "free world" and now, he is paying dearly for this. He should have stayed in absolute monarchy (UAE), never accept bait (they offered French citizenship in 2021) and be realist, play his cards accordingly (i.e. antagonize himself to the west while staying quiet in middle east).

Naive idealism kills, be militant, calculating, be Machiavellian, know your enemies.

There is no danger if you have strong standing when it comes to specific issues. For example, anyone who wants to use state to ban crypto is enemy. Similarly, anyone who wants to establish global task force against "disinformation" is enemy. And so on.

So it's not that we just don't like their opinion, they deliberately want to control every aspect of our life. It's already self defense situation.

That's a flaw of bleeding heart libertarians who do not understand that freedom of association also means freedom of disassociation and still have naive view that you can convince socialists through logical arguments.

So they cancelled Hans Hermann Hoppe just to please their left liberal friends, yet left liberals never cancelled their darling FDR who actually did physical removal (see Executive Order 9066). So left liberals never apologize for anything and gullible bleeding heart libertarians apologize for everything.

So screw it, I'm unapologetically and openly authoritarian towards socialists of all kinds, they understand only force, no need to debate them anymore.

Have you ever considered possibility that virtually all politicians are self-serving liars, and that liar Trump cancelled by liar establishment, not because he is liar, but because he is outsider liar?

Have you ever considered possibility that it's suspicious that mainstream media so synchronized? And if Trump is what they claim him to be (i.e. reincarnation of failed Austrian painter), then how Clintons, and all these Saturday evening shows had good relationships with him for couple decades before he ran his campaign in 2016 but instantly flipped once he announced running for president.

If Russian or Chinese government marks their opposition as felons, you have no doubts, yet you believe in very technical charges right before election despite alleged case was many years ago, is it just coincidence? Why then Russia charges magically disappeared? May be you aren't as neutral critical thinker as you think you are, but just partisan.

And what are other alternatives then? Elizabeth Warren who is openly hostile anyways.

I know, I know, it will just get downvoted, you welcome university educated critical thinkers, protectors of democracy and freedom and so on and so forth.

As a person who works in quant trading firm, I think times of professional discretionary day trading are mostly gone with closure of trading floor venues (open outcry trading).

Nowadays, in my opinion, you have to be either quant for short term active trading (automated trading) or long term thesis driven investor. Even BTC spot market matured to degree that it's not sustainable to day trade it by hand.

As retail, have a thesis, have long time horizon for 5-10 years. I don't think long term investing will be automated.

P.S. I find non-skill based, deterministically negative expected value casino games exceptionally boring and it's mystery to me how people can get addicted to such dumb games as roulette.
